That's why you stay and go to the Grand Canyon for a few days like me. Once you're in Phoenix/Tempe, you're literally four hours from one of the most incredible things you could ever see. Go up there, get a cheap hotel and hike a little. It'll stay with you forever.
We got lucky and grabbed flights on Northwest a few months ago. we leave at 1pmish on Sunday and get to Atlanta around 8pm with a small layover in Memphis.
While not ideal, it gets us there and at $210 roundtrip was a steal.
