According to the Athens Banner Herald, Michael Lemon has been dismissed from the team. This isn't a shocker. You can't have a felony charge of this severity hanging over your head and participate athletically. Particularly a charge involving violence against another student.
I hope this all gets resolved in way that makes sense for Lemon and his alleged victim.

Why wasn't the indefinite suspension enough until he resolves his charges?
Suspension doesn't remove him from campus.
Good riddance.
I am guessing that what they have learned is enough.
I did not know he was the athlete whose house had been burned down.
Well, I guess if there is anything positive about this, it's that it opens up another scholarship.
I feel for Lemon. He's had a rough couple of years and let his emotions get out of control because of it. I hope things work out for him.
I hope this kid can turn things around. If he does get a second chance, and we all should be so lucky, I hope he realizes that it also may be his last chance...wherever that chance may originate from.
I really feel sorry for Lemon based on what happened with his family last year, but that's no excuse for brutally assaulting someone.
Is he still attending classes at UGA, or has he been completely kicked out of the university? It'd be a shame if he lost on out an opportunity to get a college education -- that might be his last chance at the kind of structure he'd need to start putting his life back together.
Sounds like he's out of school.
If he's dealing with the Trail of his mother's killer and his own legal issues, I can't see how he'd have time to deal with school.
The last thing he needs is to be academically ineligible here or elsewhere should his situation be resolved.
Logistically, this could be the best thing for him in the short run.
Paul he isn't and wasn't atending summer classes, but how do you know he won't be back on campus for Fall?
If you have a link, please provide it.
“I have had discussions with Michael and he understands the decision. He expressed a desire to find a path back to the team at some point but that’s a decision that will depend on several factors and will come at a later date.” -- Mark Richt
This thing won't be resolved by Fall. That's pretty much a common sense issue given the pace that our legal system moves.
Hell, the trial of his mother's killer is just now starting and it happened a year ago.
That's why you gotta love CMR. He did the right thing irregardless of past circumstances or the talent level involved. The integrity of the program reigns over all else.
Ray Goff had the same situation with star LB John Allen in the early 90's and didn't have the balls to kick the kid off the team. If you've ever seen a man of these guys stature unlease on a normal sized civilian, you know the brutality that is involved. I saw the John Allen fight, it is a wonder he didn't crush the other guys skull, it sounds like the Lemmon fight was similar. Good ridence, I'm sure Virginia Tech has room for him, hell he can even take his pit bull with him up there.
I'm gonna be a complete tool and a grammar nazi (similar to the grammar freaks on EDSBS) but irregardless is not a word. Regardless means the same thing and is actually a word. I hear people say irregardless all the time and it drives me nuts.
Now, I'm sure someone will find something grammatically wrong with my post!
Really glad that coach did what he did. Really respect his authority. Hope Lemon get it together. More worried about Munzenmaier because he really seems to be lost. Anyone heard anything on Ian Smith lately - hope he can make something out of himself.
Andrew, unfortunately, irregardless is a nonstandard word, and you effectively used it when you wrote it was not a word. Though you are correct in being a grammar nazi, I suppose.

Anon 1:22,
Taken form the website you provided:
"Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so."
Sorry to post this on your blog, PWD. Go Dawgs!
Again Paul, you are making an assumption. Just because he is off the team does not mean he will not be on campus for Fall classes. He has not been suspended from the University. Let's not yet assume he will not be at the University attending classes and state it as fact.
ok - Anon.
I have no idea what the difference is, and I'm not sure I care. But I'll tell you what.

Just email me and explain it to me. I'm happy to change it if you can explain it in a way that makes sense. Because what you've said so far doesn't really make sense in light of the announcements.
I won't quote you.
I've done the other stuff you guys asked. Just send me the explanation. Thanks.

I was in a class with Lemon last Fall and he seemed like a good guy. I know that he's been through a lot of hard times, so I really hate to hear about this. Let's hope & pray that he get things settled and get his life back on track.
i hope the "victim" drops the felony charge. i dont think it is fair when someone gets beat up and cries about it. they are both young and it makes no sense to ruin someone's life over a school yard fight.
Anon 12:50,
What was described in the police report wasn't "a fight."
A fight involves two people tangling with each other.
Not one person kicking the sh*t out of another smaller person who is defenseless.
If it was your family member and the other dude didn't play football for UGA, you'd feel differently.
