You knew this was coming after the baseball team's bittersweet showing in Omaha, but David Perno got a new five year contract worth $2.25 million. I'm still disappointed over the way the CWS ended for us, but it was time that Perno got a new deal. He's led us in three trips to Omaha and captured two SEC championships. There was no excuse for him being in the lower third of SEC baseball coach salaries. Even if you think Perno is overrated and under-performing, it's difficult to argue with the results he has produced. His consistency has been the only legitimate knock.
He'll need the security of this deal next year when we will likely struggle with starting pitching.

well good for mr perno
now when can i get $2.25 million dollars for losing the college world series
nah jk, congrats perno
you think perno will use the money to buy porno in plano?
He more than desrved that raise. Congrats to Coach Perno. Just as important, I hope his requests for improvements, at least some of them, are met this year as well.
Good for him. I think this is long deserved. If anything, I hope this is the start of a bigger commitment from the athletic department towards our baseball program (and hopefully the softball as well). Damon Evans can see what Perno can do with little, let's see what he can do with a lot.
Now if only the NCAA would allow for more than 11 scholarships in baseball....
I will take the consistency of a college world series every other year. I know a lot of other programs would love to have his record. Yes they lost the last game, but there were only 2 teams playing on the last day of the season and we were one of them. He is the same coach that coached all the wins that got them there in the first place.
I hope they take the idea of moving home plate to right field and toss it away.
I'll take the 3 CWS during his tenure. I can't imagine the difficulties being a college baseball coach and having to deal with a limited amount of scholarships and the MBL draft. Gotta be tough to balance those in recruiting.

Kudos to Kaltefleiter for finally raising this issue publicly:

Most people who aren't closely tied into amateur baseball don't even know this is a problem. It would be like telling our football team they had to wear cleats we bought at shoe carnival from now on.
Maybe he will take that money and enroll his team into the "win first before you s#$t talk" school. Or use that money to buy tissues for all of the crybaby's on the team. Maybe then, they will treat their opponents with respect!! GO CINDERELLA!! and I hope you win the ESPY.
