Southerland may return sooner?

Southerland vs. Colorado in '06 (Image: Hipple)

When Brannan Southerland injured/re-injured his ankle the initial projection had him back in time for the Bama or Tennessee games. Chip Towers of the AJC spoke with Brannan briefly late last week, and it sounds like he might be back in time for Arizona State. It's an oddly worded thing, but that's how I read it.

The past two off seasons Richt talked about using two tailbacks in the game at the same time. When you go back and watch the season opener vs. South Carolina in 2006, you see some two tailback sets. Same with some early games in 2007. We rarely end up using those sets very often, and the reason is simple. If you want your best 11 players on the field at the same time...Brannan Southerland is one of the 11.

Here's hoping to a complete and timely recovery.

Not only is he one of our top 11 guys, he also blocks like hell. He protects the qb and opens up holes for knowshon.
The 2 rb set could be interesting, but will only be effective if there are holes to run through and knowshon and caleb can block on coming defenders

I would rather see BS blocking a LB or DE than KM or CK. BS will be an NFL FB when he leaves UGA. As fans, we need to appreciate what he does. And by the way, he seemes like a fine young man that to my knowledge hasn't been in any trouble since he enrolled at UGA. If you watch KM's highlight reel, BS is jacking some folk's up.

Cool picture of Richt and Bowden when they were at Miami and FSU respectively
