Great Moments in Schadenfreude: Cocks Lose

“I was surprised so many people thought it would be real hard for us to beat them. We beat them last year, and I don’t know why everybody thought they got so much better than we were getting.” - Bobby Johnson, Vanderbilt

It's a shame that I missed last night's epic pillow fight between Vanderbilt and South Carolina (logistical issues). However, I awaited the text message updates from Quinton and my dad with baited breath. The sports center highlights were worth every minute. Here are some SC melt down headlines of note to start your day.Remember, delighting in the misery of your enemy is half the fun of college football.

Oh...and in case you were wonder. Yes...this has nudged the price of the UGA vs. SC ticket down a bit.

Good point, Coach Johnson. It's not like Vandy beat some big, powerful team. Everyone else in the East is beating them, too, right?

Perhaps Coach Johnson is a Buddist, or should become one. There's something dramatically karma-licious about Spurrier giving Vandy a backhanded insult while insulting UGA last fall, then dropping two in a row to said Vandy.

Schadenfreude. It's what's for breakfast, Chikin fans. Maybe Stevie can spend the extra time between now and the UGA game explaining how South Carolina recruits all these great players, and then manages to play Vandy, and somehow Vandy beats them every year.

You know the happiest guy in South Carolina today has to be Tommy Bowden. At least he lost to a team with a storied history and a coach with a national championship on his resume. This will take him off the front page for a few days, wont it?

Spurrier pissed the bed, plain and simple. (and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy)

Go Dores!

"Scu should never lose to Vanderbilt in football. Yes, Vanderbilt awards the same number of scholarships as Scu. But the Commodores do not even have an athletics department, per se. Heck, Vanderbilt has not even come around to seat licenses for its fans like the rest of its SEC brethren."

I cannot tell if Ron Morris is trying to be tongue-in-cheek or not here. He does not really think that Scu is a better program than Vandy, right? I believe that the history books are on the Dores side in that debate.

Regardless, we need to take Scu seriously next week and send them into a violent tailspin. Spurrier will throw the kitchen sink at us as a last-ditch effort before he suddenly quits on Scu like he did the Redskins.

Again, the question must be asked. If Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier cannot make you relevant, shouldn't you consider simply giving up the sport?

I hope the smug s.o.b NEVER gets in at Augusta National!

I am angry with myself. I had a gut feeling Vandy would win, but I picked South Carolina in my picks. I just thought they would find a way to pull it out in the end. But I had that gut feeling this would be my upset.

This is why you should always go with your gut.

Is this irony? There is a message board post on one of those sites that said USC should have hired Skip Holtz (amongst others) instead of a "re-tread" like Spurrier.

I believe they had a chance to hire Skip right?

Where is that Gamecock fan who posted here? I predicted a Vandy win and in a rare moment I want to rub in his face!

I really like Vandy. I pull for the small private schools along with the service academies at every opportunity aside from playing the Dawgs or Appalachian State (or soon Georgia State). (I have degrees from all 3).

Granny Holtz made this statement TWICE last night.

South Carolina has the BEST defense in the SEC and they will prove it against Georgia.

He stated this before kickoff and again at half time.

How do you feel about that statement now, Dr. Lou ?

My sentiments exactly Bobby. I'm sitting there last night thinking, it's not even an upset anymore.

Damn, now USC will come at us with everything. I hate playing teams after they lose a game to an inferior opponent. :(

"Damn, now USC will come at us with everything."

Well, it is a good thing that 'everything' really consists of not too much.

I laughed everytime they talked about the 'speed' of the cocks D last night.

Nothing said speedy defense like 2 270lb Linebackers. NOTHING!

Um. Didn't we lose to Vandy AND Kentucky a couple of years ago????

Didn't we lose to a 6-6 South Carolina team last year?

While I enjoyed watching the upset, I think we should all bite our tongue (at least until after next week).

Hey, SkiDawg, here I am if you want to "rub it in my face." While you're doing it, just remember that I came here last week to talk reasonably. I didn't insult or flame anyone; I just came to talk. I see you can't pay me the same respect.

So is Bobby Johnson the next head coach at Clemson?

Gamecockman,

I rubbed it; I am done. That was the extent of my "rubbing it in".

I am a married man so I rarely am right :)

I apologize for being over the top. That was a rare occurrence.

In the past I had little animosity toward South Carolina even after a very poor experience at the USC-UGA game many, many years ago (the worst experience I ever had as a visitor to a stadium). However, Spurrier brings out the worst in me. Get rid of him and that will diminish greatly.

Did no one else stick around for the after-game interview with Bobby Johnson where he said - paraphrasing - that they felt if they just "stuck around" long enough "they would pucker"? Just before he said "pucker" he kinda paused like maybe he ought not to use that particular phrasology and made a motion with his fist like a sphicter tightening up... and then he said it. AWESOME.

Did our schedule get easier or harder last Thursday???
