South Carolina vs. UGA Game Previews

Some articles of interest starting with Game Previews:I'm not going to say too much about the Gamecock lunch room fight for two reasons. First, none of the players involved are starters. And secondly, Spurrier's not benching anyone important for this game. So what's the point of talking about it.

As for the potential that Stephen Garcia plays QB for SC....I say PLEASE let that be the case. If Spurrier gives a redshirt freshman QB who has never taken a snap his first action against the #2 team in the country, then things must truly be as bad as I'm hoping in Columbiaville.

Separately, everyone remembers how "all over the place" Stafford's first performance off the bench in Columbiaville was. He made some nice decisions to set up quality plays, but he also threw 3 interceptions. I wonder if fans also remember that we were so thin and banged up at OL that we converted a defensive tackle (Dale Dixson) to offensive guard late in the game to close it out? We are so much deeper at the OL these days than back then. It's staggering. Yet another reason why Stafford looks so much better now than he did in 2006.

Auburnallen,

The difference this year is that ALL of the pundits have made a huge deal about how impossible the Dawgs schedule is and in 2004 they made an equally big deal about how Auburn's OOC was not impressive.

Obviously, if we go 13-0, we are in. I don't think there is any doubt about that. But, the real question is who gets in if we have one loss along with two or three others.

But, all of that is not yet ripe. What is ripe is an imminent ass-kicking of some Lamecocks tomorrow.

GATA!

It's interesting how much Stafford can redeem himself from the debacles of 2006.

First is the So. Carolina game. 3 INTs is no good. I hope he throws 3 TDs instead. It's realistic.

Second is the Vanderbilt game.

Third is the Kentucky game.

Fourth is the Florida game.

P.S. Anyone watch the UNC-Rutgers game yesterday? On one play the UNC RB busted up the middle and was met by a safety who went to his knees to take out the UNC RB. The UNC RB just ran into him and got tackled. Thus the difference between Knowshon and everyone else...

All this fuss about Stafford's past performances against the Chickens is a bit silly.

In Stafford's freshman year against them, he played like, well, a freshman.

Last year, the line was very young, the receivers had not come around and there was no Knowshon. I think Stafford grew up a lot after the TN game. I think any comparisons before the UT game and now should just be used to show his growth.

I am picking a big win and just wish I had ordered my HD/DVR earlier!

@ovn:

Stafford certainly doesn't have anything to "redeem" from the Vandy loss. He didn't take over for Tereshinski ((shudder)) until the end of the 3rd Q. And he put us back in the lead (despite a missed Bailey FG and a Milner drop in the endzone).

Looks like it is getting as bleak as you hoped in Columbia.

ummm...I know Stafford didnt exactly light up the world in 2006 in Columbia, but didnt we win that game 18-0? Sure, you'd like him to play better than throwing 3 INTs, but it's not like he went in there and pulled a Quincy.

Stafford's freshman year started a little unevenly, but it wasnt some kind of Greek tragedy. He got better as the year went on, and he led us to impressive wins at Auburn, at Tech, and in the Peach Bowl. He got better last year, and I expect he's going to keep getting better this year.

Screw the pundits, and the nay-sayers, and the "your schedule is impossible" know it alls. If our guys focus on the job at hand, week by week, everything is going to be fine. This week, UGA gets to show the Chickens up the road that they havent passed us, they havent caught us, they dont belong on the same field with a team that's in the hunt for a national championship. I say we embrace the chaos, and show everyone in Columbia why nobody really wants any of UGA this year.

the last guy I'm worried about on this team is Stafford. The kid's a winner. He's not living on his HS school clippings or his potential like Quincy Carter did. Quincy had a great game in Baton Rouge early in his freshman year, and he never got one bit better after that. Stafford's curve is still rising. If I'm South Carolina, last guys I want to see roll into town are Stafford and Moreno.

I was not sure where to put it, but the headline on the GT is priceless. Almost landing a LB is news!

I can't believe you took out the strom thurmond's corpse reference! I fell on the floor laughing this morning when I read that line! I hope you don't think you can't stoop to those levels, because you can, and you should. Go Dawgs!
