AP and Coaches Polls are out: UGA #10 in both

The Associated Press Poll and USAToday Coaches Poll have been released, and the Dawgs moved up slightly. We went from 11th to 10th in one, and we are no longer tied for 10th in the other.

Teams of note on our schedule:

TeamAP
Poll
USAToday
Poll
Alabama2
4
LSU4
3
Florida
11
12
Vanderbilt
13
14
Auburn
20
23

Others Receiving Votes

Kentucky33
32
Georgia Tech
32
31

Some items of note:
  • Florida moved up one in each poll, but LSU moved down one in each poll as Missouri passed them with their 52-17 mercy killing of Nebraska. For those of you who went to bed early, the game was 52-10 at the end of the 3rd quarter in Lincoln. Yowzers.

  • If Vandy beats Mississippi State and Florida loses to LSU as expected, the Dores will roll into Athens no worse than 13th. Damn.

  • Georgia Tech still isn't getting much respect from the pollsters. That likely won't change with a game against G-Webb this weekend.
Anything unexpected to you in the polls?

Did Bama move down after barely beating an unranked Kentucky like we moved down after barely beating SC? NOOOOOOOOO! but then I expected that.

At least they didn't fall to 203 like Auburn did!

Im not sure why people even look at the AP poll anymore. Its not part of the BCS, the coaches poll and the Harris poll are. It doesnt matter where we are ranked in the AP poll.

lol

Thanks for the typo catch. I fixed it.

9. Brigham Young 5-0 1,103
10. Georgia 4-1 1,014

UGA has more "points" than BYU. what gives?

anon last time I checked 1,103 was more than 1,014...did you go to USC? :)

No, 1,103>1,014. Is that what you are asking?

I think Kentucky should be ranked right in the 23-25 range for their performance. Why not? So they lost. They showed up against a good team, and their D looks solid. If not for that fluke fumble into the endzone by Hartline in the 1st quarter, who knows how that game ends up? Bama only won by 3...

I like "meatpackers". Keep the name.

I do acknowledge that UK's offense was unimpressive, and that they were outgained by Bama by 120 yards or so. But, still, they hung in on a tight defensive SEC battle. Not something we're used to saying about UK.

I live in Kentucky (and I actually like the Wildcats and would be happy if they went 11-1 every year), and many of the fans are all over Hartline. But UK's real problem is that their O-line just can't get any room for their runners or for Hartline. As always, it comes down to the trenches. Their D-line is beastly, though, almost at Bama's level.

I agree with dubbayoo... the love affair continues with Bama.. On one hand, we're enough of a quality win for Bama they vault to #2, but we weren't quality enough to retain our ranking despite winning, prior to the 'bama game. It really doesn't matter at this point, but the inconsistency in voting parameters continues to baffle me. it may end up being important at the end of the season as far as positioning... but we'll just have to see how it plays out. If we can take care of business from here, then it won't matter. It's just a further demonstration of how the system is broken.

i think the reason why Alabama did not drop in the polls the way Georgia did is because of 2 things. First Alabama has had 2 impressive road wins over teams that were in the top 10 and top 3 when they played. Secondly the team behind us, LSU,had a bye week unlike USC who jumped Georgia following their blowout win at Virginia. The same thing happened whenever Oklahoma jumped them, Oklahoma won in a blowout against Cincy.

I just hope the Dawgs don't overlook Tennessee this week with the big Vandy game coming up a week later. Did I really say that?

What the HELL is going on in Nashville? I mean, Vandy....ranked! I'm speechless, I'm without speech. Who thought they'd see this in their life time?! Is this the bizarro season or something? Vandy ranked and Tennessee isn't?!

Hey! I lived in Russelaka the Zoo in '84 & '85, on the 7th floor as well. Didn't pack no meat tho.....

Cats and dogs living together! Mass hysteria!

I'm scared that no matter what, we can't climb back into the top 3. Those Big 12 teams would have to have some serious f-ups along the way (same with Penn State and BYU).

So sad.

Not just Vandy. The Tennessee Titans are also 5-0...Hmmm...

People saying they're scared of the rankings just don't have a clue. If UGA takes care of their own business, we'll be there in the end. Its that simple.

Yeah, it's too bad they don't play each other before the end of the season. Oh, wait a minute... They do. Well, it's too bad there isn't a Big 12 title game so that the top 2 Big 12 teams have to play each other before bowl season. Oh, wait a minute... there is a Big 12 Championship Game. I mistook last year's Big 12 title game for a 4 hour infomercial on how LSU should play in the BCS Championship Game. Out of Mizzou, Texas, and Oklahoma, at most one of them will proceed to the BCS Championship Game and that's if they don't beat each other up round robin style.

dante and someone --

If UGA wins out, it needs help. Period.

Further, the teams mentioned (i.e., Big 12 teams, Penn State, BYU, etc.) do NOT all play each other.

Do some fact checking before spewing garbage. What are you, Gator fans?

Anon 3:10,

Texas, Texas Tech, OU and Missouri will all play each other in the regular season and/or the Big 12 Title Game. Only one of them will make the title game.

If Georgia were to win out (and it won't), we would knock off #2 Bama and #4 LSU to free up space between us and them.

BYU as an undefeated would not make the title game over an undefeated SEC team. Particularly one with a strength of schedule as strong as Georgia's.

That really only leaves Penn State as an undefeated. They still have to play:
at Wisconsin - night game
at Ohio State - night game
Michigan - who they never beat
And Michigan State - who is quite good

The SEC Champ is very much in this, and if UGA wins out....that pretty much means we're very much in this from a math standpoint.

That said...it won't happen.

hahaha What's great is that he called us out on fact checking and spewing garbage when he has no clue what he's talking about. Good stuff.
