Paul Johnson poking a stick at UGA

From the AJC:
But Johnson makes an argument: “Ole Miss loses to Wake Forest and people say, ‘Well, they’re a bottom feeder of the SEC.’ But then they go and beat Florida and the same people say, ‘Oh, that’s how tough the SEC is.’ It’s perception.

Georgia’s a great example. Georgia’s a very talented team. They’ve got some great individual players. But the perception and the expectation level before the season started was unbelievable. And what warranted it? Because they blew out Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl?”(Emphasis added)
My retort...and Georgia Tech is some great team because they blew out Jacksonville State and beat Gardner-Webb by 3?

Keep it up, Johnson. Keep it right up.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, comes to our house and pushes us around....especially the Runnin' Bulldogs from Boiling Springs, NC...

Fantastic stuff - I'd love to see UGA/GT get heated up early.

Johnson knows whats coming in November, number 8.

To absolute HELL with CPJ, Tech, and anyone associtated with them.

What's that coming down the track? . . . . . Eight in a row you @#$@$@ #W$@#$@#$.

Whenever someone says that UGA's ranking is based on blowing out Hawaii I automatically dismiss that person. People say that to gloss over the fact that UGA ended the season with 4 wins over ranked opponents in its last 6 games, all by double digits.

Now when we lost Owens, Sturdivant, Southerland, etc., etc. , etc. our situation changed. But to say that UGA's reputation and ranking was based on the Sugar Bowl alone is willfully ignorant.

Johnson's got a big mouth, always has. He's also always been at little places where he has to say things like that to get attention for his program. This time, he's buzzed up the wrong tree. He'll be reminded of that comment in about a month. And he will regret it.

Who the hell is Paul Johnson?

Silly Nerds.

He has a past history of opening up his mouth when he likely shouldn't so there's no surprise there. Keep talking Paul...November 29th is right around the corner.

Kevin,

Exactly. Couldn't have said it any better.

With about 5 minutes to go in the game on 11/29, I want the "Eight Straight Years!" chant to be deafening. Also, I think Hawaii would probably haven't beaten Tech last year anyway. All the more proof that Paul Johnson is a poor man's Jim Donnan.

I got 4 on the 50 yd line for our homecoming game vs. Virginia, vs. FSU, and Miami for all you naysayers. $2 a seat! It's all about the opshun biatches!

Sometimes, it is so tough to really feel animosity towards conference opponents. Obviously there's plenty of venom for UF right now. But as far as Tenn, AU, etc.,it is just tough to feel a lot of hate right now.

I'm so glad CPJ said this. This should be a reminder to all the players and everyone in Bulldog Nation that there is a reason Vince Dooley always called the Tech game "the biggest one of them all". One thing we've lacked this year is something to get pissed off about, good, solid bulletin board material. Here we go.

Just fuel the fire PJ, fuel the fire. It may be hard to get up for a game when we beat a team 7 years in a row, but I know 85 guys that would love to beat down a doubter like you.

Tech? Yawn.

yeah, i observed the guy pretty closely in the local media here when he was the navy coach. he always seemed like a real douchebag who always seemed to make a point of trying to embarrass whatever poor sportscaster had the temerity to ask him a question about anything.

it's going to be fun beating this guy's ass for the next 3-4 years.

I have walked out of Bobby Dodd last year without the slightest bit of excitement over beating Gtu for the seventh straight year.

I am glad that the high school coach may actually make this game somewhat interesting again.

As an aside, I feel pretty certain that this will be the high school coach's most talented team for some time. They have been winning with their front 4 and all but one of those guys will be gone after this year. After a season of preparing for the high school offense, even the most mediocre of Acc coaches will be able to stop it regularly.

Hey, PJ...
NAVY beat Wake. Fortunately, you won't have to face the embarassment of losing to Wake (and being shown up by your former team) since you won't get to play Wake this year.

I love a reason to hate Tech even more, and this guy just did it. Get a real offense, coach a real team in a real conference, and then start talking smack.

first of all, he was not dissing uga. the man said that they have a great team, and great individuals on the uga team. the comment about them being number one was the same thing that the author of this blog has been saying the whole year. that with all of the problems uga has had this being number one and winning it all with the loss of all the players uga has is or would be unbelievable! but of course uga would completely ignore the fact that he said they had a great team! what a bunch of idiots. ohh yeah, and if what all of you are saying is true, and he's wrong, then uga being number one at the beginning of the season should crush gt! who was picked to be 2nd to last in the conference. ohh yeah and gt owns not only two more national champs than uga, they also, as of now own the 8 game winning streak! i'm a gt fan, and i hate uga, but i do think uga will win this year, but i do not think he meant those things in the way you are making them out to be.

Funny. I thought the only purpose the Tech athletic program served was to give Georgia a court to win the SEC basketball championship on.

They play football at Tech? Still? How cute.

Listening to the Mini-Skipper pout and fume is like watching midget wrestling. You know no one is really going to get hurt, and he's just so darned cute.

He's like a bad combination of Pepper Rodgers and George O'Leary. Pepper's option and eagerness to run his mouth, but O'Leary's impatient, "Everyone but me is a dumbass", grouchy persona.

it's hilarious to see the nerd response to the Mouse That Roared. They love it. They finally have a tough talking, drink his Zima clear bad ass who makes no pretense of his intention to come in and kick UGA's ass. Well, all I can say is: Good luck with that one, Coach.

I look forward to UGA whaling the mustard out of them this fall. I appreciate the Mini-Skip helping to keep everyone from assuming we're just going to roll over them for the 8th straight year, 15th year in the last 18, and the 18th year in a row they cant beat us without a substantial number of ineligible players.

EIAR,B, bitches. Here it comes. You can run, but you cant hide.

They just can't help themselves. I was hearing about it from the Tech fans after the Bama game. I then reminded them they they have not beat us in football in 7 years. Oh yeah and we beat them in basketball and baseball, both sports that they are "supposed" to have the edge in.

Tech and Johnson, you got it all wrong, we're playing Vandy this week, not you - you know, that other gold team. Er, wait, your colors are snot/puke now.

Anonymous said...

I believe we were ranked 3 and 4 in AP / Coaches poll before the dominating Sugar Bowl performance.... maybe, just maybe, that was part of what warranted the number 1 ranking.

Anonymous said...

I didn't know Tech still had a Football Program?

If you want to talk about national championships, lets look at what the GT athletic association has for national championships and what UGA's says.

If you look at the 2 books, we both have 2 consensus championships. But we have more non-consensus championships. Here is the data:

GT:
1917: Consensus
1928: Consensus
1952: Not consensus, Polls: International News Service, Second to Michigan State who had AP and UPI
1990: Not consensus, Polls: UPI, The Sporting News and Scripps-Howard News Service, Colorado had the AP poll

UGA:
1927: Not consensus, Polls: Boand, Poling
1942: Consensus, Polls: DeVold, Houlgate, Litkenhous, Williamson, Poling, and Berryman, Ohio state won the AP poll
1946: Not consensus, Polls: Williamson poll (poll based on a power ratings system).
1968: Not consensus, Polls: Litkenhous poll (uses a difference-by-score formula)
1980: Consensus

Ole Peanut-butter and Jelly doan care, GT is just a steppin' stone to a school where he'll have a legit chance for the Natl Championship.

He's gonna be a problem for the ACC though, no doubt.

Keep it up Coach Johnson, coupled with that trash-talking Jayblow Shaw did when he signed about how he promised he would be the first QB to lead Tech to a victory over the Dawgs. Looking forward to Curran knocking Shaw's helmet off.

Can't wait for EIGHT-IN-A-ROW and yet another year of bragging rights against the maggots.

This is why I was pissed the last few years when we won against Tech, but it was close. We gave the NERDs hope.
We must crush that hope in November.
6:09 part II needs to go down...

The only good excuse there is for even acknowledging tech is the proximity to The Varsity. GO DAWGS.

Not so fast Dawgs, it doesn't take long for the ego to come back does it. Yah, you found out what it was like to get blown out of your own stadium by half time by Bama, got smacked by the "Tide" faithful by their "Rammer Jammer, Hay Dawgs". That was the real rub wasn't it. Georgia has Never beaten Tech eight years in a row, never. Paul Johnson is a name you guys are going to come to put into Spurrier's catagory, it is just a matter of time. In fact he may be the best Tech Coach since Dodd. Remember when Tech stormed the hedges '1998. It's coming. It's gonna hurt worse than that Bammer Rammer Jammer too. Ouch ! Its gonna Sting, I can see UGA finishing anywhere from 10-2 to 8-4, Whatever, the last one will be at the hands of the buzzy bees.
