Coach Ball Will Stay

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that UT-Chattanooga is down to three finalists in their head coach search. Tony Ball isn't among them.  Ball was an alum and a former standout for the Moc football team, so he was considered a strong candidate to take over Chattanooga's program.  While this is a setback for Coach Ball, it's a positive for UGA.  Ball has a good reputation as a recruiter and has done a good job with the backs during his time in Athens.
All is quiet on other assistants, including Garner and Searels.

Although this has to be a huge let down for Coach Ball, it's a huge win for UGA.

Coach Ball has done a fine job with the RBs and I said that before #24 graced the field. The fact that Coach Ball actually played RB is a big plus. I beleive Kirby Smart was our last RB Coach & he played safety in college.

I'm so glad that Coach Ball will be around!

Maybe Richard Samuel and Caleb King will morph into D1 RB's by next year?

I am sure Coach Ball is a nice man and a decent coach, but just as every aspect of the program failed this season, Coach Ball was never able to get Caleb King and Richard Samuel to be even *decent* backups to Knowshon.

Yes, Knowshon is a singular talent, but there was such a drastic dropoff when he left the games that we nearly needed to call a timeout to let him back in.
King and Samuel were below average runners, could not catch and never learned to pick up blitzes. They also played tentatively and forced Knowshon to be in on way too many snaps.

I hope that Coach Ball does a much better job next year, because he will not have #24 to cover up what a shoddy job he is doing.

Anon,

Did you expect them to be first team all americans this year?

Samuels is a true freshmen and Caleb is a RS freshmen who missed most of his senior year in high school due to injury. I'm betting that the two of them never had to worry about pass blocking in HS and even then it was probably only one guy that they had to chip block.

As for Knowshon being on the field so much, he had 247 carries last year. He has 227 thus far. Figure he will get around 20 in the bowl game and he's at the same number as 2007. You may have noticed him more this year, but his playing time is about the same.

Also in 2007, Thomas Brown had 10TDS & nearly 800 yards rushing to go along with Knowshon's 1,300 and 14.

Those are some impressive numbers.

Coach Ball is a fine coach and I'm glad he's on board.

I would have been surprised that a school would hire a position coach to be a head coach. There are management issues that come with being a coordinator that a position coach just does not have.

I think Ball got consideration only because he is at a big time program and a former Moc player.
