2009 SEC Football TV Predictions

God Bless Night Games

JimFromDuluth has put together his self proclaimed way too early TV forecast. His projections for kickoff times for Georgia Bulldog football games (home games in caps):
    Sept. 5 - Oklahoma St. 3:30 ABC
    Sept. 12 - S. CAROLINA 7:45 ESPN
    Sept. 19 - Arkansas 7:00 ESPN2
    Sept. 26 - ARIZONA ST 7:00 ESPN2
    Oct. 3 - LSU 3:30 CBS
    Oct. 10 - Tennessee 12:00 ESPN
    Oct. 17 - Vandy 12:30 ESPN-R
    Oct. 31 - Florida (JAX) 3:30 CBS
    Nov. 7 - TENN. TECH 1:00
    Nov. 14 - AUBURN 7:45 ESPN
    Nov. 21 - KENTUCKY 12:30 ESPN-R
    Nov. 28 - Ga. Tech 3:30 ABC
Jim and I disagree on a few games. I think Oklahoma State will be a twilight start on ESPN or ABC, and I don't think we'll have three true night games at home in a season. In other words, I would imagine that South Carolina might be moved up to a twilight start (5:00 ish) and Arizona State might land on CBS at 3:30. But who knows.

He didn't just put this together for UGA games in a vacuum. He actually went week by week across the entire SEC schedule. The tricky part is guessing what ESPN will do with their extra inventory of games in terms of time slots.

No way we end up with 3 night games at home. Adams wouldn't allow it to happen.

ok you have to post a link or something to that picture of Sanford b/c its the best I've ever seen of the place.

In the last several years (except for the 7:45 ESPN2 game 3 years ago), have we not played UT at 3:30 every time?

What's the story behind the Thursday night in Stillwater rumors?

That'd be kinda cool.

The Arkansas game is away, so it wouldn't be 3 straight home night games.

What's up with the nooner UT kickoff? What are the other headline SEC games that weekend that push this one so low on the priority list?

Adams won't have a lot of say...he sold his soul to espn along with the rest of the conference.

With espn adding an almost weekly night game on the U....we will have more night games than ever.

PWD,
Can you do a post on the new ESPN contract and how many games per week they will pick up and how CBS will play into the TV schedule now that they are not the SEC #1?
Thank you!

I'm hoping for a 2:30PM start against OKST. No fonking way I'm staying in Oklahoma for a weekend, and driving back to Dallas at midnight would suck.

The Soulcrusher is going to crack some necks and crush some souls in Stillwater.

CBS loves UGA.

I think we'll have more than two games.

Only had two CBS games in 2006. Of course, we weren't that great then.

Re: Thursday nights. I believe UGA has said it will never play a Thursday game, though that may have been Dooley's policy. Whether we'd get much choice in the matter for a non-conference road game, I'm not sure.

And the unofficial policy has been one true night game a year. That's a policy that is strongly supported by the local constabulary. They might be persuaded to go for two, but there's no way they're doing three.

Of course, last year you probably would have figured that Georgia-Auburn would be a high-demand game. In the end, not so much.

Let me reiterate once again....regardless of past policies on night games....the SEC is on tap for a lot more, and the green being thrown from Bristol will dictate game times.

If they say play at midnight, then its gonna be a REAL long day of tailgating, and the gates will open at 10.

More night games? Thank god for ESPN.

Weren't there people who were opposed to this contract? I see no negatives for UGA or the SEC

We said we would never play a Thursday HOME game. I would think that a road game, and the season opener to boot, would be a kick ass way to start the year.

If our defense does not improve next year we will not be on TV this much. Lets see, same coaches (all of them), roughly same talent or less, why is anyone optimistic that our defense will perform any better. The Tenn Tech, Auburn and Kentucky games could all be dropped.

Exact same thing that was said about Florida's defense after 2007.

Injuries matter, fwiw. A healthy Owens, Washington, Battle, etc... could make a huge difference.

Mark Richt said last year he would love to play a Thursday away game.

We are too good for Thurs night games. Leave that slot for the second rate bees.
