If you're getting recruiting news from me...

...then you're making a mistake. lol. I really don't "cover it" until it's a done deal because others are much better at it. However, we are entering the home stretch right now. In my incredibly unreliable opinion based on reading tea leaves, we'll close with Greg Reid and Orson Charles, and I give us a 50-50 shot with Marlon Brown. As for the others:
  • Starling (S) - I'll believe we pull a kid out of Lincoln High School in Tallahassee when I see it. The Noles OWN that school.
  • Geathers (DT) - Their family has been unpredictable with all three boys. It's pretty obvious at this point that no one has any idea what they'll do. In fact, it's not clear that we'll still have scholarship openings for Geathers when he makes his decision about a week after signing day. We could get him, but I wouldn't count on it.
  • Jarvis Jones (LB) - It seems like we've been in second place for his entire recruitment. Why would that change now? I don't see it, but I'd be thrilled to be wrong.
Closing with Charles, Brown and Reid would be our strongest finish in many years.

If you're not that into recruiting (and if so...you likely don't read college football blogs), Mark Weiszer has some position change and injury updates on his blog.

It would be a great help to have Orson and Marlon sign with us.

We NEED Greg Reid to pick UGA.

Orson just for breaking the BCS trophy. Marlon for keeping kiffykins down.

There is nothing more brave than an anonymous post... lol.

Haven't we gotten a recruit out of Tally before or am I mistaken?

Hopefully John Lilly will help to reverse the trend though.

And PWD, your blog is my first stop every morning. Thank you for what you do!

Tony Milton was from Tallahassee, although I'm not sure the roundabout way he got here counts. Mike Gilliam was from Tally as well. I think that's about it under Richt.

Great post anon. I hate it, but i completely agree. And the anti Bobby Knight stuff makes it even worse...Cant believe you would rather some young up and comer who is going to bolt within 3 years take over our PATHETIC b-ball program instead of a living legend who would immediately energize the situation.

Hey, wasnt Felton an up and comer?

And to all those who make comments like 'real brave anon' should stfu.

Why do people come here to complain that the blog isn't worth reading? Isn't that sort of like p*ssing in the wind? Or wasting time posting by posting "you stink" on another team's blog?

FCK THE FLORIDA GATORS!

HEY YOU FELLOW IDIOT DAWG FANS, DIRECT YOUR HATE TO THE APPROPRIATE SOURCE!

JEESH.

The AJC listed 6 kids still "out there" that had UGA on their list. They said if we got two of the six, we should be delighted. So you're right-on with your call.

Time for the 2009 Football Schedule :)

sexytexasbabe,

I will. I have to implement some new stuff with Stubhub first. Just haven't gotten around to it.

"I get zero news from your pathetic blog these days."

I actually don't read this blog for news, so much as insightful commentary on the news. The posts are usually newsy, but I don't think the bloggers make it their aim to break stories. If it's news you want, there are other places on the web for that.

With regard to Tally recruits. FSU hasn't gotten as many in the last ten years as they once did. In addition to Miami and Gainesville, Bama and West Op'alaka have gotten their share.

It should always be noted, during Bowden's heyday, and our dark period, FSU owned South Georgia. Richt, and Garner, have reversed that.

As far who we get or don't get, I would rather have the guy that wants to be a Dawg and just take my chances with him.

yeah i agree with the other anons.. this blog has gone to shit.. i read it bc of how great it used to be, get over yourself pwd.. quit the "if you support bob knight coming to uga your a sidewalk fan" or whatever the F it is you say about fans who would be happy with knight.. he is a winner, wanting him at our beloved university doesnt make us dumbasses, it makes us better risk managers than you.. its much more risky to hire a young up and comer, he would have a much more difficult time recruiting than a proven bob knight.. he would have to convince recruits he is the man to lead georgia to the tourney, bob knight wont have to convince anyone, kids will believe him right away.

Anons,

Really? I don't get it. PWD questions the wisdom of a Knight hire, and "this blog has gone to s***"? I read the blog for rational discourse, which is more than can be said for your drivel.

Is it just me, or did it just get Florida Gator fan stupid in here?

Seriously, don't read it if you don't agree. Or, read it, think about why you disagree using big people language, and post your rational, well thought out counter argument. I'm sure if PWD read something completely amazing from you on why you think what you think, he'd at least consider it.

Wow Paul, this blog is really, really terrible now. I blame you and only you for having football season end and therefore having to change the tone of the blog and focus on other sports. Especially one called the Georgia Sports Blog! I mean, basketball? What is this? An ACC blog? And having an opinion? On a blog! How dare you!

I think we can all agree that a blog that has football as its primary focus and content filler should be consistent with its content year round despite massive periods of little or no activity by the team and that every idea/opinion you put on here should be based on polls and focus groups.

Its not like you have a long history of speaking on controversial issues on this blog and giving your opinion.

Nope, its post after post of topics like: "Mark Richt: Great Coach or Greatest Coach?" or "Athens, GA: Great Town or Greatest Town?"

Thank God you never talked about or gave your opinion on issues that we as Dawgs fans all debate on such as:

an indoor practice facility, the job security of Dennis Felton or Willi Martinez, our special teams, our tackling, potential coaches, the "tradition" of UGA basketball, expansion of Sanford, improvement/destruction of Stegeman, a garden for Dooley, off season workouts, players leaving, players staying, coaches staying, coaches leaving, the Harrick era, impact of winning our bowl, injuries, coaching hires by other programs, player discipline, advertising at UGA, playing aggressively, playing intelligently, playing violently, corner kickoffs, fake punt coverage, defending the spread, red zone offense, quarterback controversies, running back by committee, using the tight end, blitzing, sprint draws, damon evans decisions, michael adams, decisions, the univeristy's decisions, the athens police, the campus police, the tailgating policy, the blackout, ESPN bias, the BCS, the BCS coverage, presidential involvement in football, the preseason NIT, kickoff times, Penn Wagers, the possible voodoo connection to Mudcat's car, early signing day, other bloggers, walk-ons, ETC.

Yup NONE of that have you seen discussed on this blog over the past few years. Thanks for never giving an opinion, always giving us sunshine and rainbows, and supplying us with top-notch football content in months like March where the only football being played is on PS3s.

Keep up the GREAT work, you guys get better every month, and y'all are a top level blog!

GATA GSB!

Its sad but true about Starling. As a former high school football player from another local school in tallahassee, its a BIG deal for FSU to even look at you.

Anonymous said...

Well, Reid has dropped us. Down to Bama and FSU for him. Damnit.

Anonymous said...

Yep, Reid to FSU. That sucks, at least it wasnt bama.

"Richt saving Knowshon's jersey for Reid"

Does that mean its retired?

LOL. HOW BOUT THEM DAHGS NOW?
