It's a little thing to you, but it matters to me

I'm a fan of Andy Landers. The results the past few years haven't been overwhelming, and he should've done more with the twins and Nolan. I get all of that. But he's a Dawg from his head to his toes, and built the program from nothing with little organizational and cultural support. Frankly, his only real problem is Pat Summit.

For instance, I'm pretty sure he beat Pat three times in 1995 only to lose the NCAA Title game to her. That's the kind of luck Andy has when it comes to Pat. She basically owns him. Imagine the frustration Dean Smith would've felt if he had coached in the Pac 10 at the same time as John Wooden. That's basically what Landers deals with.

I only say all of that to say this. Tonight, Pat Summit goes for 1,000 wins vs. #2 ranked Oklahoma on the road. If she should lose, she'll face Andy and Lady Dogs on Thursday. Andy's girls are improving, but this is one of his weaker teams in a very long time. I don't think this squad has it in them to stop Summit from getting 1,000 wins at home, and you can be sure he wouldn't get any help from the officials in that scenario either. It would be a gigantic kick in the balls to see her get that record at his expense.

Conversely, it would be one of the sweetest wins of his life. I just don't think he's got the horses to pull it off.

You have rose colored glasses if you think Andy Landers can still coach at a high level. What has he won lately? He consistently runs down his teams and last year at one point just said they wouldn't listen to him and he just sat on the bench and didn't coach. He is a travesty and the Georgia program will continue to be mediocre until we get rid of him. Prove me wrong.

If the Lady Vols are playing the Lady Dogs, the Vols are guaranteed to win.

1995? I wasn't sure we had ever beaten them at all.

I've long said that if Landers coached any sport besides women's basketball he'd have been let go a long time ago.

It would take an upset for the Lady Vols to win against the Lady Boomer Sooners, and also an upset for the Lady Dawgs to defeat Pat. I'll take either, but I think number 1,000 gets hung on Andy..

Bwaaahahahahahahaha rotflololol

A Landers fan doesn't want the doormat of the SEC to hire the winningest coach in college basketball history. Fitting really.

Landers is the epitome of mediocrity. Kinda like your blog the last 2 years, PWD. Why don't you do another "this is why you suck" entry on Bobby Knight while sucking off the most overrated, do less with more coach in UGA history. My god you're a moron. You'd probably still take Richt over Meyer, and hate Yoculan too.

Sounds like the Anons believe Summit would actually leave Knoxville if we fired Landers. Either that or Dean Smith would come to Athens to coach our ladies.

Get a grip! I've known the Landers family for years and he bleeds red and black. Loves Athens and the community. The analogy to Dean Smith in the Pac-10 during the Wooden years is a great one.

Fans who are upset with Landers are the ones who only pay attention when he goes up against one of the best coaches in basketball and her team that is stocked with talent.

After all, he only wins over 75% of his games.

I believe Landers is orginally from Maryville, TN. Which is Summit's home town now. I, too, would love to see him keep her from getting 1000.

DEAR DUMBASS,

Landers has been to the Final Four, Elite 8 (3 times) and won his conference regular or post-season tournament (3 times) since Knight last went to the Elite 8 or won his conference....in 1993.

Knight's dominance expired a full DECADE before Andy's did. Have a clue before you rip me.

BTW -- If you are who I think you are, you're a tiny person for not posting under your DawgVent name so we can get a fuller glimpse into YOUR background / predictions.

Its a sad day when even Dawg "fans" rip into a coach that just racked up his 800th win and topped it by beating #4 ranked Auburn - who was on a 20 win undefeated streak, btw.

Pat Summit is an excellent coach, no doubt, and I'll hate it if she gets her 1000th win at the expense of our Lady Dawgs, but I wouldn't trade Andy Landers for her or anyone else.

Go Lady Dawgs!

The game has passed Andy by. He doesnt recruit the state well and kids today don't want to play for a crochety old guy who is a one trick pony. I know how to motivate these kids....yell. There is only one thing worse than a guy who appears to yell indiscriminately at his team and that is an old dude with greasy dyed hair yelling indiscriminately at his team. He will NEVER win the NCAA tournament but will make the tourney and lose in the first/second round. He doesn't have the top talent and as long as he is the coach he won't....period.

Well Oklahoma beat UT so it will be Summit vs Landers for her 1000th win.

The ladies have been playing well of late, should be a good game.

Well said Paul.I have no idea where this anger at CAL is coming from. Most neither know or care about wbb.Except CPS he has more wins than any others mentioned. How you can say CAL yells at players , then suggest CBK for mbb is just silly.btw UGA has gotten some awful draws and travel from ncaa tourn. over the years. The instate talent isn't all that great either.

Pat will get her 1000th win Thursday. No doubt.

Ugh. :(

UNBELIEVABLE that some of my fellow Dawg fans really think Andy is a good coach. Years ago he had some nice wins. And some nice players. Lately he has had mediocre wins and even his best recruits bombed out. His teams haven't won a thing in this decade. Open your eyes. Just cause he built this program up to a sometimes pretty good team is no reason to keep on keeping on the SOS.
