Hugh Durham on the UGA Opening
Jeff Schultz goes one on one with Hugh Durham about the opportunity in Athens, his trip to the 1983 Final Four, and the upgraded facilities in Athens. It's always encouraging to read other folks talk about the opportunity in Athens.

I'm pleased to see that Hugh is doing well. I'm also pleased to hear his comments on UGA bball and the potential we have here. Folks are finally waking up to the fact that the state of Georgia's flagship university has the ability to be a tremendous winner in bball.
There is no need to doubt our potential. Everything is there for the taking. Now go make it happen.
Nice to see that shot of the 1983 team at the Alberquerque airport. It reminds me that Uga IV is the only live mascot to ever attend a Final 4.
I love listening to anything that Coach Durham has to say. He could still be bitter if he wanted to be. But he's clearly happy and well adjusted. And it's obvious that he still cares about UGA. He spent nearly 20 years here, and I greatly appreciate everything he did for us. He gave us a chance that we never had before.
Interesting tidbit about Durham... In the late 1960s, while he was FSU's head coach, my dad was a professor at FSU. He once sold my dad some life insurance. Durham obviously had to supplement his coaching salary to make a little more cash--something you'd never see nowadays...
it's good to see former Shamrock Dragon Glen Ross, the only Dragon ever to get to the Final Four, in the picture. He wasn't exactly as key a contributor as, say, Vern Fleming, but he's a great guy (and the Final Four ring is way cool).
all school, are you an shs alum?
Little known fact--the mountains in the background are the Sandias. Sandia: Spanish for "Watermelon." At sunset, the mountains posses a reddish hue.
The biggest UGA screw-up ever , firing this classy guy.The best to CHD.Is Gillispie UGA's best option now ?

indeed I am, Jerome. Are you, by any chance, a fellow inmate at The Rock? I am always proud to tell people that I attended the only high school in Georgia, perhaps even America, named for a strip shopping center. Not even a mall, but a strip center.
I loved Shamrock, and the people I knew there were all pretty good folks. Glen Ross is the only one with a Final Four ring, but Jeff Saturday has a Super Bowl ring.
