For a staff that "can't close well," they did pretty damn well. Orson Charles picked UGA yesterday. Scout lists Georgia's signing day or later kids as a 5 star WR, a 4 star DT and a 5 star defensive tackle. Blake from Mitch & Murray is impressed.
Scout lists UGA as having signed the #6 class in the nation. Rivals has the class at #8. Georgia is the only SEC East school in the Scout.com Top 10 final recruiting ranking. The class only has 19 signees so its ranking isn't as high as other larger classes. However, the class has the 2nd highest "average star rating" for Scout.com and is tied for 4th highest average star rating on Rivals.
(Update: They updated both Scout and Rivals rankings since I first published this. We're up to 4th and 6th respectively. All the other stats have been updated as well. See links above.)
I say all of this to say this....
I really don't care about ratings. Other than DE, I think they got everything they needed in this class. All of the bitching and moaning about "closing well" on signing day never made any sense to me to start with. What difference does it make if they commit in Feb. or Sept?
Anyway...it's a strong class, and I'm eager to see what we do with them.

How come no story on the record setting Diamond Dawgs?!
"I really don't care about ratings."
That's what we all say, but secretly we crave highly ranked recruits like crack addicts covet "the rock". Ol' Mudcat was a 5 star, but there was no accounting for that 5 star vehicle of his!
I know rankings don't mean a lot but the Dawgs did move up two spots on Rivals and Scout.
I believe we signed 20 counting Orson Charles.
Correction: 1st at Scout, 4th at Rivals.
On an average rating basis, 2009 passes 2006 for the highest ranked class under Richt.
When is the last time Georgia signed 4 five star prospects in one recruiting class?
You must have looked at Scout before it was updated. We have 20 prospects and have the fourth best class and as another poster said we have the highest average star rating per prospect (all Scout numbers).
Thanks to my favorite Dawg blogger...by far!
As far as DEs go, you have to remember Reuben Faloughi (4-star DE walking on due to academic scholarships) and Wheeling at DT which could move Abry Jones to DE because of his speed and undersized frame.

Correct, I do not believe the rankings have been updated since OC signed. We were at 19 after Geathers I thought. Once again these rankings don't mean a whole lot other than how the atheletes have been developed so far in their young careers.
RE: Diamond Dawgs
Quinton has done several articles on the baseball team. There's no game today because I just got back from the game. He usually does a recap and looking forward article about once a week during the non-conference schedule.
Particularly as weak is the opposition is now. We were up 19-1 going into the top of the 9th today.
I was one of those who felt we had trouble finishing and I admit I am very happy and impressed with how last 2 players
RE: Baseball
Kyle over at Dawgsports is covering baseball pretty well. So between here and there, you should get your fix.
Kyle usually cover the Gymdogs, while PWD has more hoops.
i thougnt we fired the baseball coach years ago ;)*
For the guy that thinks Abry Jones is undersized. Last time I talked to his dad he told me Abry was a solid 305
FYI, the Blake from Mitch and Murray link takes you some random YouTube video.
Do not discount players moving to DE from other positions such as a smallish DT or a LB who puts on some muscle.
The difference between UGA and a MNC is 5 stars.

I guess I'm kind of a faux recruit-nik (not religious about it, but it is kind of fun before and after the season). I have read on the ajc recruiting blog that there is a highly-regarded 2010 WR (a life-long Dawg fan to boot) just waiting for us to offer (he apparently already has offers from all other SEC powerhouses and USC, etc). He's a kid named Tai-Ler (pr. "Tyler") Jones, from Gainesville, GA.
Normally, I'd think there was some perfectly justifiable reason we haven't offered yet. But I just saw this (publically available) video clip of him 1-on-1 at a recent GA work-out against some of the state's best DBs:

Holy Mololy !! Sign that kid up NOW. He is the PERFECT speedy little possession receiver we need, catching everything against taller DBs and outrunning everybody.
Let's not let him become another Stephen Hill, where we wait too long to offer a scholly to a UGA fan-recruit. (Two UGA recruits, the TE Vogler, from Brookstone in Columbus, and WR Markeith Ambles also look good in the video.)
But I like Jones' style...
PWD, are you there? Haven't seen a post from you in a bit.
