UGA splits with Winthrop in baseball

In typical mid-week form college baseball form, UGA split a double header with Winthrop on Wednesday. I can't look up the details right now because Georgiadogs.com is experiencing technical difficulties, but the scores were:
    Game 1: Winthrop 7 - UGA 4
    Game 2: UGA 13 - Winthrop 2
Also of note...Georgia Tech got the absolute hell beat out of them by Georgia Southern by an eye catching 23-3. Tech split their season series with the Eagles at 2-2.

In SEC action, top 10 ranked Arkansas beat top 5 ranked Arizona State twice this week in Fayetteville. The Hogs are having one heck of a season, and they come to Athens for another monster series April 17-19th.

Just a quick note on the first game here.

4 errors doomed Georgia including 1 that lead to 3 unearned runs on a bunt that rolled passed the pitcher who tried to field it and then throw it to the photographers instead of first.

Georgia loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh and eighth only to finally get a hit in the ninth with the bases loaded to make the score look decent.

Georgia was held to a mere two hits through the first 6 innings.

This baseball team with all the errors is reminding me of our football team last year with all the penalties. Im pretty sure we lead the SEC in errors, just pathetic.

The second game was marvelous. Joey Lewis hit a grand slam over the extension wall in dead centerfield...monster shot.

Winthrop fans on the 3rd base side were getting ornery by the middle of the nightcap. Even saw a pretty spectacular mullet in a Winthrop track suit.

That Warren Nolan site has our strength of schedule at 99th (as of 4/9/2009 @ 1352). Can that possibly be right?

NCT,

Yeah, but it's up 50 points from about 2 weeks ago.

Our non-conference schedule was really weak, but the SEC is so tough that it's racing back up. Particularly after 2 games vs. Clemson and 3 vs. LSU last week.

Ah, so maybe it's SOS for games played?

Yes, our SOS went up about 20 spots by playing Wofford. This weekend series against UK wont help our SOS that much.

Meant Winthrop not wofford.

We're a very young team. Young teams make alot of errors. Will improve as the season progresses.
