If I am holder I would think hard about going to Washington.

Any chance that Poythress stays for his senior year and becomes a lock as a first rounder in 2010?

Jason, Trevor may be thinking hard about playing in the Nats organization, but it's not like he could return to UGA. He's a senior.

Re: Poythress staying

I'd say that's an emphatic no. He's been out the door after this year since the beginning of the season.

Why would Holder have reservations about the Nats organization?

They have brutal pitching, he could have a chance to progress quickly.

Dean Weaver got picked with the #1 pick in the 7th round by the Nationals according to the very sketchy MLB draft tracker so if its a mistake I call shenanigans on their website.

We're in the 9th round and Joey Lewis has not yet been selected. I know there hasn't been much mention of him considering staying in Athens, but he's starting to get to the point now where he needs to seriously think about it. With a full year of catching in 2010, I think he's a top 5-round guy.

Hard to say what Weaver will do. I'm just not sure whether his ceiling is far enough above the 7th round to warrant returning. I'd certainly love to have him back.

Re: Poythress staying

David Hale has an interview with him and it's a near lock he's headin west ...

On whether he has a deal in place yet, given that he told Boston he was not interested in playing there...

"We have no deal agreed upon, but I knew they were going to take me when they picked again, and I think I made it clear to everybody else that it was going to have to be as good a deal as Seattle was going to give me."

He later says that if it doesn't work out he'd be glad to come back to UGA, but it sounds like they have a solid foundation on which to build a contract. He also turned down Boston - which was the 28th pick of the first round.

Matt Cerione went to the mariners 2nd pick in the 13th round. He will go, as he has most likely(heard from some of the other players) been kicked off the UGA team.

still no bryce or joey.

Walters to Orioles in 17th.

Zach Dotson, from Effingham Co, is the only signee drafted so far, that I can tell...he went #404 to the Mets, 6'3" LH pitcher...

McRee in 26th round, #787 to the Dodgers...I think he will definitely be coming back unless he is disappointed at out pitching coach...

Miles Head, signee at Catcher, #798 to the Bosox....

Anon 9:11,
Thanks for catching my mistake. I haven't kept up that well, but I do know the Nats suck and I believe its an organizational thing, not just a few down years.

Not to be an ass, but how in the hell could Michael Demperio get drafted, much less before a guy with the stuff of McRee?

That absolutely boggles my mind.

I guess you just have to remember that 80% of the kids that are drafted are considered nothing but practice dummies for the 20% who have a chance to make it.

Anon 6:41,

When they call the prospect and say, "Will you sign?" And the kid says "No." That drives down their value.

In case anyone cares, the Braves drafted Ryan Wooley in the sixth round. Wooley pitched for UGA in 2007 and 2008, but was kicked off the team for off the field issues following the season. Wooley transferred to UAB and had to sit out the season due to NCAA rules. Still got drafted pretty early though.
