I noticed that the Huskies won on a neutral field in Oklahoma City which is much closer to Gainesville than Seattle. It's also much hotter in Oklahoma than Seattle, but they were unfazed. Additionally, Southern Miss won in Gainesville which is inside the State of Florida. And Billy Madison kept Tim Tebow from winning a Tony Award last night for his performance in "The Speech" despite an enormous media push by CBS, Fox and ESPN to support Tebow's nomination.
It's been a productive couple of years for the Gators. It's always nice to see them lose. Especially to those that didn't complain about location of the contest.
PWD
Update 1: Talk about a random typo. I got Billy Elliot and Billy Madison mixed up. 100 cocktails to EmotionalFescue for his comment on that.
Update 2: In fairness to Coach Richt, his new soundbite is that he doesn't care where the game is played. It would be unfair to not link that that; although, I think what he really means is "stop asking me about this because the fans complaining about my comments is pissing me off." To that I respond...."Good. Get pissed off. The sooner the team gets pissed off the better. They play dramatically better pissed off anyway."
Lastly, I meant for the original post to be so absurd and sarcastic that people would chuckle at it. I mean...I did

Paul, why do you continue to make light of CMR's comments. I find in in poor taste. I think we all get your point, the location doesn't matter, although CMR and Spurrier seem to think otherwise. We are all sure that you are the wiser coach of the coaches listed above. Oh, thats right, you are not a coach, you are just a blogger thats enjoys running a point into the ground.
First off - GFY Gators!
Schadenfreude indeed!!!
Paul, this weakling above needs his maxi-pad. For Christ's sakes - some people simply can't understand that any excuse CMR mentioned comes off as whining. Do these people call themselves men?
The off-week prior to GA/FL is the single most important, measurable determining factor in who wins this game. Spurrier's primary objective was to have that week placed specifically prior to the Georgia game. If Mark and Damon were to do that, you'd see a tremendous swing of the pendulum.
But for now - Go Gator. Go FY!!!
Go Gatuh,
If you had half a brain you would know that CMR and Damon have nothing to do with the off week. SEC scheduling and dates are done by the league, including off weeks.
The anon@ 1:08's point above seems to be that, even though CMR excuses are considered whining, evidently he believes PWD has hammered this point enough.
Anon 1:08 is right Paul.
What do you think this is: a web log where you can just sound-off on your personal bugaboos and whatever else strikes your whim!
Stop forcing us to come to your blog, read your opinions and then force us to angrily denounce you for making them.
I would pay big time money to see Billy Madison the musical. The following sung would be amazing:
"Shampoo is better!"
"It cleans the hair!"
"Conditioner is better!"
"It makes the hair silky and smooth!"
"Stop looking at me swan!"
Also, you already have dancing, sun exposure/alcohol induced penguins. The play would really hinge on who played Eric. Great role if you ask me.
"If peeing in your pants is cool...consider me Miles Davis"
Normaltown....Its fine to spout opinions, but if you were a regular reader you would realize, enough is enough already, we get it. PWD thinks CMR is a pansy ass.
Anon - Easy solution then, brother. Stop reading the site. You aren't paying for it. It's his to do with what he pleases.
Anon 1:32:
Au Contraire. Me thinks PWD is trying to persuade people's thinking on the issue of moving TWLOCP. It's not a challenge to CMR's manhood. CMR probably won't even read this (he rarely reads the blog, but if he does he uses the handle "All Dawgs Go To Heaven" and he likes to make snarky comments about other posters mispeled werds).
This blogosphere rhetoric is an attempt to curve opinions being formed towards his as opposed to an other. I happen to disagree with him.
Anon 1:24,
Regardless of what you may think, the AD's from each school have influence over their team's schedules. In many cases, the head coach can influence the AD. If this were not the case, then Mark Richt would not be petitioning Damon to MOVE THE GA/FL GAME and Spurrier would not have petitioned his AD at the time for a bye prior to the game. Scheduling, times, locations, adding or removing teams - all are governed by the league and ALL are negotiable to some extent.
Peggy Blake and Debbie Corum are two SEC employees who, among many roles, preside over the committee that oversees the scheduling process.
To suggest or think otherwise is either naive or ignorant.
Guys,
lost in all this WLOCP crap is the fact that University of 1990 got smoked and was denied another set of trophies.
ANYTIME this happens, well, it's a very good thing.
The WLOCP discussion jumped the shark a while back.
I said the league was in charge of the SEC scheduling and the dates, and there has been some manuvering or negotiations on dates, but not off weeks, if that were the case, don't you think we would have an off week before the WLOCP every year. To suggest otherwise would be ignorant.
Also, spouting off names proves nothing.
Are we sure it didn't Nuke the Fridge?
I'm sorry, PWD, but I have to agree w/ some of the other posters. This seems adolescent. CMR is certainly fallible, but this is a childlike shot at him. We bash coaches all the time for coach-speak, CMR answered a question honestly about whether or not he thought the site was neutral. Everything he said was pretty much true, no matter how trivial (weather) it seemed. It's your blog and you're welcome to your opinions. I love GSB and read it every day, but, frankly, this kind of post makes me not want to come here.
I love post that make fun of the Gators, Nerds, Vowels, or War Chickens. As a Dawg...post making fun of our SEC champion who has restored our program to national prominence...not so much.
Anon,
For those that understand the importance of having the off-week, and have followed the subject for some time, I can tell you with confidence that our athletic department never made having the off-week a priority. We have had several off-weeks after the WLOCP, but not before. When we have the prior to, the benefit is obvious.
When Damon became AD, he verbally declared that having the buy b4 the CP would be a priority of his. Looking forward, our schedules indicate that he did not follow through. Of course, this could change.
But this is all beside the point, which is Damon, Jeremy Foley, and the other AD's have siginificant influence on who plays who, when, and where.
Also - having knowledge of who does what within the SEC's Bham office is benefitial, especially when conversing with the ignoramus'.
It's a blog, it's the offseason, it's a free country and this is utterly harmless.
I cannot believe the daddy issues some people have when it comes to their team's football coach. Thought that was an Alabama/Auburn thing.
To really oversimplify things....
The division games, and the permanent cross division opponent are scheduled as permanent slots by the SEC. (Don't get me started on our annual "pretty drive" flip flop of the Kentucky weekend.)
The rotating division games are then slotted a few years out by the conference.
If you look at the future schedules on sicemdawgs.com, it even states that some dates are assumed based on what has happened in the past.
But, if the conference is advised you already have a game scheduled for a weekend, they will avoid a rotator on it.
Damon should schedule Georgia State every year for the game before the Gators with an under the table agreement that we will cancel each year and pay a fee.
LOL, I do not think the point is directed at CMR, but all the readers of this blog that complain about Jax. Totally agree the biggest issue is the open date, or lack there of.
Now that I have read your blog, Paul, could you please stop pointing your gun at my head?
I'm just guessing here, but the fact that UF had EVERY saturday off before the Cocktail Party from something like 93-2004 while UGA didn't is pretty good evidence that someone at UF had some good influence. UF had Auburn 2 weeks before, then the bye, then the Cocktail Party from 93-2003 while UGA had KY from 91-2002. I understand the divisional play/rotating schedule and such, but how is it that UF was given such a sweet setup, never forced to play a conference game but yet we were? Random chance? Luck of the draw?
As for being snarky with CMR about Jax? I think as long as Richt makes petty excuses, he sets himself up for commentary such as Paul's. I'll give Richt the travel issue, that really doesn't make it very neutral. But the weather? I don't take anything away from what CMR has done for UGA. But at some point, he as a coach needs to man up. That was the point of the "Celebration" and the "Blackout" of 2007 wasn't it? Keep doing that - step on someone's throat, play to win, rather than not to lose, and everyone will forget about it.
@ dawgnotdog: "(Don't get me started on our annual "pretty drive" flip flop of the Kentucky weekend.)"
I think it was more of a Keeneland open/Keeneland closed issue with the UK game being moved.
re: Coach Richt's comments. Man up. That's all. Weather, travel, scheduling... ALL EXCUSES. The more Coach Richt opines on just about anything, the more he comes off as making excuses.
Travel didn't cost us the Bama game. The staff not focusing on being prepared cost us that game. Setting out black jerseys is not preparation. It's going to the well too many damn times. If travel was such a big factor then please. Somebody. Explain to me the Sugar Bowl we lost. IN ATLANTA. Anyone? That's what I thought.
Oh no! It's a DRY heat!!! And yet, somehow, we managed to win!
Excuses. Does Pete Carrol make excuses about flying all the way across the country to beat the crap out of Auburn? or Virginia? or half-way to Arkansas? Nope.
It's embarrassing. Just tell it: "We need to stop crapping in our pants when we step on the field in Jacksonville: players, coaches, everyone." Stop puckering up and we'll win... off week before or not.
@Tommy: "I cannot believe the daddy issues some people have when it comes to their team's football coach. Thought that was an Alabama/Auburn thing."
Thank you for putting that out there.

"I don't really care where the game is played, quite frankly."
That's more what I'm talking about.
Stoopnagle...
RE: Kentucky, yes and no.
When the consideration began to move the game out of October, the cry was Keeneland, Keeneland, Keeneland....to no avail.
When it became clear the game was going to move, the conference was going to move it to the weekend before Tech...every year.
There was a compromise reached....which I believed to be permanent, but now seems to not be...that we would go up there 2 weeks earlier in even numbered years.
Dooley was quoted as saying something to the effect of..."Well, at least our fans will still get the pretty drive to Lexington every other year."
Just another reason lexington should have never been permitted entry into the SEC.
Guys,
Damon and Dooley made several adjustments to the schedule over the years in an attempt to break up the emotional and physical death march of UF, AU and GT in a row to finish our seasons.
They made progress and now those games a separated by UK and a bye week and/or a Div I-AA game.
However, in the process they ended up with us playing 4 consecutive games away from Athens every other year.
We would probably be better off swapping the UK and Vandy games. But that's unlikley to happen soon as either UK or Vandy is resistant.
SicemDawg's site is just an estimate. I think we're going to get a bye week before UF about once every 2-3 years.
As long as UF doesn't have a bye every single year before us, who cares.
I'm eternally grateful to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles...not only did they eliminate Florida in Bucknerish fashion last night (and I was lucky enough to be in attendance for it), but they also elimiated Georgia Tech on their home field last weekend. Any team that can knock those two out of the tournament has my full support in Omaha.
The only problem with Southern Miss is that the more they win, the more we'll see replays of @#$@%#$^ Fresno State over and over and over and over. I'm going to have to do my best not to throw any objects at my TV at some point during this CWS, I'm sure.
Q: What are your thoughts on Atlanta trying to land the Florida-Georgia game?
A: I don't know the answer to that. Every time I say something, it becomes a much bigger deal than it is. All I can tell you is someone asked me awhile back at a booster function if it was a neutral game. And I said I really don't think it's a neutral game. I don't really care where the game is played, quite frankly.
Can this please be the end of the CMR bashing disguised as humor?
Hobnail,
I hear you, and agree. But I think most folks that make your point and take your view must realize that when a head coach makes ridiculous statements and weak qualifications re: his programs most hated opponent, then he must be prepared for the backlash. Even if the backlash lasts well beyond the ashes of the original comment(s).
We all wish Coach would have instead said the following "My team will play Florida anytime, anyplace, and under any conditions. I don't care if we play them on a barge in the middle of the St. Johns river - bring 'em on". Could you imagine what the team would think then? Something like "We got a bad ass as a head coach and we're bad asses too and we're not afraid of those MFERS anymore and we are going to beat them to fkcing pulp".
But instead, our coach said......well, you know.
Yes, continued congrats to Washington and Southern Miss. I'll be happy to let them play the Go Gator in Jax in late October while we go play Oregon St. in Corvalis or at Tulsa. It's apples and oranges.
It is what it is. Ain't nobody playing us in the ATL every year. Ain't nobody playing LSU in NOLA every year. Ain't nobody playing Bama in B'ham every year (anymore). Let's beat 'em in Jax. But it is what it is. Let Southern Miss play the super-regional in Gainesville for 20 years in a row and tell me how that turns out. Let's beat 'em...but it is what it is.
geeeeeeez,
he's our coach and we love him.
I like the game in Jax. Always have always will.
Bobby Bowden, "King of the Road", "Sultan of Sod", and everything else would hem and haw after getting beat.
Clock management was a problem in 2001, it got fixed. This bag of stuff will get fixed too.
I thank the Allmighty that CMR's skin is thick enough to handle criticism and that he understands it comes from the passion of the devoted following that makes UGA such of choice job.
I am also thankful Cynthia McKinney never gave a speech before congress linking herself to the University of Georgia.
What was all that Shane Matthews stuff about? Why did we make fun of Corch Meyer?
I think Richt is being vague about it because he doesn't want to give uf any more locker room material. I'm sure behind closed doors, he's telling the team that they will face uf anywhere. I'm not saying it's right, but it is what it is...
@dawgnotdog:
I wasn't aware of Dooley's "nice drive" comment. That's... so Vince.
I just remember being disappointed (I probably still am) that Keeneland and Georgia football can no longer be combined into one bourbon soaked w/e.
God forbid anybody ever question CMR's rationale. Every other school in the country (including the ones that are more rabid about their football programs than UGA's fans are) have a fair share that stay on their head coach's ass like white on rice. You think Saban doesn't have a share of detractors? How about Stoops or Pete Carroll?
Limited dissention is healthy for a program. CMR doesn't need everybody under the sun blowing sunshine up his rump 24/7, but from where I sit there seems to be a mindset among the UGA masses that he is somehow untouchable. That is not a good thing IMO. Imagine if he ever happens to stumble upon a MNC.
