The power of the new SEC/ESPN relationship is pretty obvious in the first three weeks as 24 of 27 games involving SEC teams will be televised on cable or over the air. Only three games will require a Pay Per View fee, and none will be off TV. Also note that 7 of the 11 games in Week 1 are night games, and 6 of 9 games are at night in Week 3.
Mike Slive talked about the TV deal on Wednesday, and his comments can be found here. It's incredibly ambitious, and it's going to be very hard for JimFomDuluth or me to predict where / when some of the Tier 2 match-ups will air.

Has anybody heard anything about when Comcast will roll out ESPNU (and ESPN360, for that matter)? The best information I can find on the Comcast website is its 5/19/2009 press release announcing it will be done "in time for this year's college football season." That's not specific enough for me. I want to know when I can go ahead and tell TiVo to get the season for me.
With all the night games, I wonder if Mike Adams will break from the SEC and try to get his own deal with NBC like ND so we can have all 1pm games.
I am pretty sure that Comcast adds ESPNU and ESPN360 on August 1.

I work in the tv industry and the latest I've heard is that Comcast doesn't have an official date.
I have a question. Since SW Virginia was left off the "places cool enough to be considered a network market" list, does anyone know if I will still be able to order the games through ESPN's Gameplan? Through Cox Communication, I could order single days - the days that the Dawgs weren't on national TV.

Can you tell me something about this new SEC Network, please? Are all of those affiliates required to carry all of those games? I know that in the old Lincoln/JP/etc. days, all of the stations didn't carry all of the games. For example, I live in middle Georgia, and I watch the Macon TV stations. WGXA in Macon would certainly carry any UGA games that happened to be on Lincoln/JP, and they might even carry a Florida game or some others. But they generally would not carry an Arkansas or Mississippi State game, for example. Do you know if the new SEC Network will be different?
ESPN will probably negotiate a stronger deal than Raycom could.
I imagine that the local station be paying for the entire contract and ESPN will be selling the total footprint of the contract.
So I would THINK that if it says SEC network....you'll be getting the game. But that's just a guess.

I'm assuming that I'll still be able to order the games (it's only $21 for the day), but there will be fewer that I have to order. And hey, they throw in monster match ups like UConn vs Syracuse for free. Can you say BONUS!
From what I've heard on local radio, the SEC Network is MUCH bigger than anything that Raycom ever came up with. It includes many cities that are well out of the normal SEC viewing area, out on the west coast and into the midwest. I don't think anyone who received the games last year on Raycom has a thing to worry about.
