Auburn Previews

The two best Auburn previews I've seen come from MaconDawg and Blutarsky. I haven't written anything about this game yet because what's to say really? Auburn's offense is good at things we don't defend well...namely fast paced, play action oriented, fairly balanced, misdirection attacks.

It's like a broken record this season. If Georgia's defense plays to its talent level and the offense can eliminate the turnovers, I like our chances. If not, we lose. That's been the story every game, and it will be the story til the bitter end.

If UGA wins out, we could go as high as the Outback Bowl. Although, that's much less likely than the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. If we don't take care of business against Auburn, we could be playing UK next weekend for the opportunity to play a bad Big East Team or a Sun Belt team at The Old Gray Lady in one of Birmingham's most dicey neighborhoods.

For us to win, this game needs to be a Dusty Rhodes vs. Tully Blanchard in a Loser Leaves Town Cage Match. The bloodier and more gruesome; the more I like our chances. If it looks like something from an After School Special that ends with Willie pointing at a doll to show where the bad offensive coordnator touched him, we're sunk.

You get big points for the Dusty Rhodes reference. Ah I remember watching Georgia Championship Wrestling back in the 70's. Btw I have always hated Ric Flair. The fact his a Turd' only confirmed my hatred.

Good job sir!

If this one goes "Dusty Rhodes vs. Tully Blanchard", someone better be in charge of knocking out the refs or we're sunk.

Next week it is Georgia vs. Kentucky in the "Work Hard To Get Pizza" game.

So are we Dusty or Tully? And who gets BabyDoll?

We have to be Dusty - Auburn is Tully and the refs are JJ Dillon

I sincerely hope that AU and Tech both score 50+ on Willie's D so he WILL BE GONE.

For the love of God, please find a DC and staff that can get the most from this immense talent we have. And yes I said it - Immense.

JaxDawg,

I'm going to assume you also want UGA to score 51 so that we win those games. Willie ain't worth losing over. I hope instead that Richt does what he has done so far at UGA - make good decisions on the big issues and right the ship going forward. I just wish he would make those decisions a little faster (although I agree with Richt that it is not a great idea to fire your DC in the middle of the season unless you are prepared to take on that task himself). I very much agree with you that part of that is a new DC. I believe if Richt does not get a new DC and we have similar defensive results next year, it may cost Richt his job in the next couple of years.

Any thoughts on new DC's besides the obvious former UGA players?

GO DAWGS, KILL AUBURN!

Is there a way we can tip off our defensive plays to Auburn so they can maul us the way Tennessee did? There's got to be some way we can get Willie and Friar Richt out of Athens.

We need Jim Grobe or Marty Mornhinweg. This coaching staff is TOAST!!!

Hank,

I think Dasher had a pretty decent list a few weeks ago with some exceptions. He even said Kirby wasn't out of the question. Which I've said from the beginning...if we don't get Kirby (which we won't) it won't be because he doesn't get along with CMR. Same thing Legge said recently.

That said....Kevin Steele is a really interesting guy. Current DC at Clemson. Formerly the DC at Bama for Saban for 2 seasons. Helluva Linebackers coach. Former coach for Bowden at FSU, former LB coach for Dom Capers with the Panthers (a great defensive mind). Former LB coach for Osborne at Nebraska.

Guys that intrigue me are:
1. Kirby - but why would he take that lateral move?

2. Steele

3. Dick Bumpus at TCU - although, he may get the TCU job sooner rather than later

4. Tyrone Nix at Ole Miss - although I need to research his bio more

5. Ellis Johnson - they seem to be in the right place, but he seems a bit docile to me. I'd like to know more about him.

And I'd love to have Travis Jones come home. He's the assistant DL coach for the Saints. Former Saban assistant with Dolphins and LSU. Coached mostly DL, but he's coached enough OLB in the 3-4 and overall LBs in his career that he could come in and realistically coach any of the front 7. Also former recruiting coordinator for Saban which Derek Dooley wasn't doing that job.

Plus, with Travis you get a former Dawg *and* you can ask Searels if he's a good guy or not. Stacy would know about his work ethic and off field habits and be able to vouch.

I'd LOVE to have him back.

To clarify -- but not have Travis Jones as DC. Just in some position coach capacity.

Actually Flair played football at the University of Minnesota. I'm not sure how he got connected with Florida.

For all you wanting UGA to lose, PLEASE find another team to root for. I find it appalling, beyond pathetic.

As far as Steele - same line as Kirby - Why would he make a lateral move, other than a higher profile program. Word around Tallahassee is that Kirby is also on a short list to be the next DC @ FSU since Andrews announced his resignation.

i would love to see us win these last 3 games 51-50.

Steele is a great 2nd choice.

I'd rather not give up 50. I think a couple more games like Arkansas--D gives up over 40, offense tops 50--would get Willie gone without the ignominy of a losing streak to the NATS or dropping a game to the fightin' Chiziks.

Re: Bumpas...I'm not sure he's on the TCU HC shortlist. Isn't he older than Patterson? The one downside there, I think Patterson may have more to do with the D and coaching up than Bumpas does.

The Dawgs should try dancing in the end zone after the first touchdown...

or wearing black jerseys(yeah, that's the ticket)

or wearing black helmets and pants...

These are the important things that teams do to win.

Sincerely,

Coach Schtick

I sincerely did not know that there were things we do defend well.

PTCdawg, I didn't read one comment that stated that anybody wants to see us lose. They just want the remaining scores to be 51-45 so that Willie can ride off into the sunset.

On the Kirby situation, I think he knows that everybody says that its Sabans defense and why not come home and get all the glory of it being HIS defense.

Hobnail_Boot said...

Hey Auburn.. we're gonna make your back crack, your liver quiver, and your knees freeze.

Oh, and Blue Gill - we defend Ohio Valley Conference teams based in Cookeville, TN well. And yep, that's about it.

Will is correct--Bumpas will not be considered for a HC job at TCU and he is not the defensive genius--that would be Patterson.

If you folks don't think their will be big CHANGES on the D, whether we lose or win out, you haven't been paying attention....

Obviously we're Dusty, here are some others:
Auburn = Tully Blanchard
UF = Ric Flair
UT (kiffin) = Rock n Roll Express
UT (fulmer) = Arn & Ole Anderson
MSU = Barry Windham
Vandy = Jimmy Cornette

Texas = Magnum TA
Texas Tech = Hector Guerrero
Oklahoma = Wahoo McDaniel
FSU = The Ultimate Warrior
Miami = Lex Luger

my brain hurts.
