Hello World. I'm Sundiata Gaines

In his fifth career NBA game, Sundiata Gaines hits the game winning buzzer beater for Utah in their victory over Cleveland. Gaines didn't play until the fourth quarter when their staring point guard went down. He played 9 of 12 minutes in the 4th and posted 3-3 shooting , 9 points and the above game winner.

On the season, he has played in 5 games totaling 47 minutes, and he only has 2 turnovers against 7 assists. Charles Barkley, Ernie Johnson Jr. and Kenny Smith couldn't say enough positive things about Yata Gaines last night. Great story.

By the way...Yata has only practiced with the Jazz once...yesterday. No kidding.

Now, it's time we add him to the NBA Wall at the new Stegeman Practice Facility.

Post Game Interview in the second clip.

I'm really excited for yata, but I can't help feeling the way I felt when terrell davis started tearing it up in the NFL. Just think what this guy could have done for us if we had a decent coach!

I agree, Anon 10:09. Imagine Sundiata running the point this season! Regardless, what a great night for him last night!

Not sure what you mean Anon 10.09. Unlike Terrell, Yata is all over our record books. I might be wrong but I believe he is top ten in pts, steals, assists and maybe rebounds. I have asked the athletic department for two years why there is no discussion on retiring the kid's number. He stuck with us through the darkest time of UGA basketball and tore it up while he was here. He also did it with a lot of class. Now if he did have a decent coach with more talent while at UGA, then I think he probably would have be drafted right into the NBA. But remember, free throw shooting is what always held Yata back from being insanely great.

Sundiata Gaines was the 2008 SEC Tournament MVP. Just sayin.

No better way to have your "Welcome to the NBA" moment!

GATA, Yata. Seems like the Jazz should go ahead and sign him for the rest of the season and end this 10-day contract bull.

I would be all for retiring Yata & Dave Bliss' numbers.

If Theron Sapp can have be one of 4 gridiron numbers retired for breaking the Tech drought, surely 2 and 44 could be. We don't experience the most amazing run in college basketball, winning that SEC tourney without 'em.

And you guys aren't getting the comment. It's not mine, but while Sundiata accomplished some great stats and those 4 great games, imagine if he spent four years under say Coach Fox, with a PG alongside him like Dustin Ware so he could slide over to the wing and score more. Or if he had skilled big like Trey to work the pick and roll with. Or if he had shooters like Jarvis and Ezra on the wings. If Sundiata had some great teammates and a great coach, could he have led us to a couple Sweet 16s, maybe more?
