He has a year of college eligibility left... maybe he wants to play linebacker in the 3-4.

that Hungarian dude didnt take half the beating Bill Bates did when Herschel left him for dead on HW's first collegiate TD run. Probably didn't suffer half the embarassment as a result of the beating he got, either.

I guess this means Herschel is now blowing up in Budapest. To paraphrase Muhammed Ali, if Herschel Walker told me a mosquito could pull a plow, I'd hitch him up, not ask how.

My God. He looks like a Greek God, only black.

Herschel was and always will be my Hero!!

What the hell was that?!

Not an MMA guy here...Other than seeing HW compete at 47 years old which on its own is stil pretty amazing...I thought the fight appeared staged and boring. HW could have been blindfolded and still whipped that sack of fertilizer! MMA didn't due itself any favors to win over the casual viewer this weekend!

Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ. If I look that good at 47, I've made the correct deal with satan...

Also, GAT-Hungarian-A...

Herschel's forehead and jaw looked like Sammy Sosa's circa 2000. Just sayin.

I watched it. Herschel is an amazing physical specimen but he was very stilted in whipping the hand-picked stable pony's ass. The single most entertaining portion of the fight was early on: the stable pony challenged Herschel and #34 responded with a stiff jab that bloodied his nose. It was quite a pop.

Nagy was *very* soft. Of course, as I understand it "Strikeforce" is third-tier MMA, so take it FWIW.

Yeah, it was pretty clear that HW was going to win when they stepped into the octagon(?), but really what would you do if you were in charge? You'd want HW to have at least one or two more fights.

It was boring. The clip shows pretty much everything exciting that happened. Herschel just sort of kept the guy on the mat, pinned him as much as he could and got some licks here and there.

I doubt MMA is staging fights for HW. That guy just took a beating from someone obviously much bigger and stronger.

Ben,

You mentioned you are not an MMA guy. I have to say, as one with wrestling and boxing experience, that Herschel showed a surprising amount of skill and discipline in every area of MMA:

Some striking (punching and kicking while standing) though most of the fight was on the ground;

Wrestling - he countered his opponents moves expertly and used position, strength and leverage to manhandle his opponent. He was mindful of his body position and avoided getting reversed or in any other trouble;

Judo - did you see the throw in the clip?

Jujitsu - This is the hardest area to learn when you are new. Herschel did not use much, if any, jujitsu offense, but his defense was surprisingly astute as he avoided his opponents attempts at submission holds - one heel lock and several arm bars;

Muay Thai - watch the thigh kick in the video. Ouch.

Ground and pound - while Herschel had no trouble getting his opponent to the mat, he showed much resourcefulness in landing punches and inflicting damage while avoiding trouble and never taking any punishment.

It was very surprising to me to see Herschel exhibit decent skills in so many disciplines with the short amount of training he has had in this sport.

Herschel would not beat an MMA fighter with lots of experience. But and MMA fighter with lots of experience wouldn't be able to keep Hershel out of the end zone. The impressive point is that Herschel used his martial arts experience, his incredible fitness, his determination and desire to compete and learned enough skills to go out and fight a similarly experienced opponent and completely dominated him. The fight may have looked boring to some, but it was not sloppy and for those who knew what they were looking at, the skills on display were impressive given the brief period of training Herschel had.

Pre-fight word was that when they sent him to a cardiac center for testing, Herschel had the highest score they've EVER recorded.

Nice review Hunker Down. I worried about submission defense but Herschel eluded some holds pretty well. Herschel looked stiff and not instinctive which came off weird for Dawg fans. I think Herschel suffered from fighting a bum but at least some chump in pink hair didn't knock him out like Kimbo.

Sheesh...he looks like Apollo Creed.

Hunker Down,

Herschel has been involved in martial arts since before he was in college. You act as if he picked up training in the past year. He was a black belt before he graduated college. This stuff isn't new to him.
