Bob Ryan of ESPN's The Sports Reporters and the Boston Globe comments on Michael Adams' candidacy for president of the NCAA, and he throws Adams a beating. It's a must read for Georgia alumni. (Ht - TheDawgfather on dawgrun.com)

I take it this throws a huge monkey wrench into our plans for the NCAA to take this jackass off our hands...

Damn.

Someone needs to tell Bob Ryan to STFU. The sooner we can get Adams away from UGA the sooner UGA can get back to being a great institution complete with the traditions that made it great.

PLEASE NCAA! Take Michael Adams, PLEASE!!!!

I pray for the day that we can get rid of MA. But, if he goes to the NCAA, how much damage will he do to college football as a whole? Be careful what you ask for; you might get it.

Ollllddude has it right. Remember when Adams went above Richt's head in supporting a playoff? If he gets into power, make no mistake, it'll be his way or the highway.

I want Adams gone as much as the next guy, but I don't want him screwing up all of the NCAA Athletics. Some booster needs to hire a girl from the Cheetah to be his secretary and end this mess once and for all.

Oh calm down, I'm only 80% serious.

With Adams moving on to be prez of the NCAA, we get rid of him at UGA and probably get a playoff in college football. Those are 2 big pluses right there.

Crap, the worst part of this is that I have to say that Bob Ryan is correct. Cannot stand Ryan.

I was a student during Adam's first years at UGA. At the time, the fact that it was taking a lot of people (especially business students) 5 years to graduate was a big deal.

The faculty and students all said it was because there just weren't enough instructors to increase the number of pre-req classes offered and that more needed to be hired or that TAs should start running some courses.

Adams decided that the real reason had nothing to do with class size or anything like that. It was simply that taking 5 years to graduate had become socially acceptable. His remedy was to eliminate the terms freshman, sophmore, junior, etc. and to start calling people first-year, 2nd-year, etc. The sheer embarassment of possibly being called a "5th-year" would motivate students to graduate on time.

It was a brilliant idea. Can't remember if it worked or not...

Adams should be commended for his resilience in the face of common sense.

Sheer embarassment? Proclaim your a "fifth-year" with pride. What are all those folks who graduated in 4 yrs doing with their lives thats so great?

God forbid the Boston Globe actually credit Myself or the ABH for the photo they took from the AP Wire.

Thanks for the heads up PWD.

I guess it's because I've just never understood how the whole deal works, but how come the overwhelming majority that is against Michael Adams' leadership of the University cannot just get him removed?

This is the first time I've ever liked Bob Ryan.

Well, if he goes to the NCAA, they won't turn their back on all the things that he has gotten away with here at UGA.

@Watch Dawg-

Don Leeburn won't let it happen.

@DavidManning - why would a storied institution such as the Boston Globe stoop to recognizing someone from such a backwoods, hicktown as Athens, Ga. You're probably lucky they didn't try to bill you for the shot ;)

WatchDawg,

Because somewhere, Michael Adams has a picture of everyone on the Board of Regents doin' not so nice things to a goat.

Either they're afraid of him or he's the Antichrist. You can pick whichever one you like.
