This should be fun. The Tech game is at 7:45 on ESPN. We've been complaining about the lack of night games and its injurious effect on recruiting. Well, here comes a big one against a hated rival with bowl eligibility on the line. It should be the best atmosphere in Athens the Dawgs have seen all year.

I hate the nerds.
I was wanting to win because its the Nerds, not because we get a trip to Memphis if we win. But now, after having a couple of beverages, when I walk in the stadium its going to seem like the biggest game of the year. Can't wait!
Thank the Lord.
Does Mark Richt have a fake punt or onside kick in the playbook? I wonder if it even enters his mind to attempt one of those.
when was the last georgia- georgia tech game with a night kickoff in athens???
Isn't this game historically pretty dead in Athens when UGA is having a down year? The students are gone, people are traveling for Thanksgiving, the weather sucks, etc...
Carlton-
As I remember, we pulled the exact same onside kick move against Virginia Tech in the 2006 Peach Bowl. I can't remember a fake punt.
There was a fake punt 3-4 years ago in an Athens game - can't recall specifically, but for some reason Kentucky comes to mind - kicker ran down the south sideline for about 35-40 yards.
UF 2008. or 2009 can't remember.
Last night GTU game in Athens: 2006
UF 2008. I'll never forget.
I thought they didn't like night games in Athens?
We called fake punts in...
-2004 Cap. One Bowl (2003 season) vs. Purdue. Sean Jones ran around end for a first down.
-2004 vs. UT. Disaster. We tried Joe T up the gut. Of course, the whole day was a disaster.
-2005 vs. UK. We were slow going trying to clinch the East. Ely-Kelso took it for about 70 yards.
We have never attempted a fake FG under Richt.
Don't call them nerds. It gives the impression that they are smarter than us. Please stick to terms like; spaz, geek, dweeb, liar and cheater.
So....back to fake punts/trickery....if sUGArdaddy is right then in CMR's 10 years here, we have successfully pulled off a grand total of 2 fake punts.
That's 1 successful fake punt for every 64 games (or about once every 5 years) under CMR (128 games total).
I'm not asking for him to go all Les Miles on us and try one every other quarter, but come on....use some imagination/creativity. I don't think once a season is too much to ask.
All of the students will be here for the game, its our first home night game and its tech. Its also at the end of Thanksgiving break so everyone that is home will come and go back to their respective schools on Sunday. This should be the best game in Athens all year.
Yeah, the GT atmosphere is usually a bit more dead than one would think (Thanksgiving, students are not all back), but considering this is the first and only night game of the year, I feel like people will be out in full force tailgating all day followed by one of the more electric atmospheres for a Tech game Sanford has seen since 2002. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
I emailed Greg McGarity about "Blacking Out" Tech but he replied that we would be wearing our traditional red uniforms. I thought it might be cool. I guess not...
We need to chill it out on the colored jerseys/helmets for awhile. At least until we can successfully represent them with a win.
One of the issues with the GT game is that the Freshman dorms are not open until Sunday so freshman do not have a place to stay for the game.
That 2006 Tech game was a 3:30 start. UGA confirmed this is the first true night game against Tech when played in Athens.
Agreed. Forget the alternate battle jerseys and helmets. We're red and black, let's stick with that.
I people want different colors, play intramurals.
Time to pull a great atmosphere for Crowell, Rome, etc. Make them wanna commit on the spot!!
Nope. The 2006 Tech game was a 3:30 kick. Athens-Banner Herald had it wrong as well.
Yeah, we're "representing" and doing the red jerseys justice this year alright.
You people with your "gimmick" uniform hate are ridiculous. Black is one of our colors. Those black uniforms are frickin sweet with the red helmets.
For a game under the lights, that would be a visually appealing combination.
Very few teams in the country would have won vs. Bama or Florida on those alternate uni days.
It wasn't the jerseys. Get over it.
If we start doing it a little more, say once each year, then THAT BECOMES A TRADITION!!
russ- where is the black though? maybe we should wear blank pants?
My thought was that we would have several recruits at the game (I'm here Crowell will be there), we are not only playing for a bowl berth (albeit a crappy bowl), and we're playing Tech at night. We could really show the recruits and everyone watching the game on ESPN that we stand behind our team despite wins and losses. It's little things like that that can sometimes win recruits over. I'll be at the game and I'm wearing black anyway because like the other poster said, it is one of our colors and I think it's awesome.
Cause you know what they say, fake punts win championships...
