On Bacarri

I have to wonder, what is all the fuss?  Yes, he is our leading returning tackler.  Yes, he has an awesome name.  Yes, he adds experience to the DB corps.  Does it matter that he might have got beaten out for his starting job?  Is suspended for the first game?  Is about to transfer to North Alabama? Under NCAA investigation?

Honestly, I've spent the last three days trying to figure out what the fascination is.  I love the guy and the way he hits.  I am not a fan of his pass coverage.  I hope he plays and if he isn't suspended, then expect him to do so.  If he is suspended, it'll hurt, but I still think our DBs are solid.

Am I missing the source of continued fascination with his status?  Is it really just a hunger for anything negative about the football team, absent a last minute crime spree?

It is the result of the Candy Land news that has been flowing from Athens this offseason. Everything is lollypops and gumdrops. The sky over the practice fields is always blue. If Rambo is suspended, not beaten out of his spot, the secondary just became that much weaker. A weak secondary against Kellen Moore is not such a good thing. Just my thoughts.

I can understand the concern around the possibility of suspension. No one wants to go into these first 2 games without our best guys. But, if the reality is that Shawn and Sanders have stepped up, isn't that the kind of meritocracy we desired under the former DC? The problem is Richt's comments have been vague enough to make it seem like there is some suspension news out there, but he's not ready to announce anything yet.

He tackled like a girl all of last year, reminded me of Kirby Smart. His real last name is Fudge anyway. He hit hard his first year until he got hurt against Auburn, since then he has been "gun shy". We need more Thomas Davis types back there anyway.

If you like the way Rambo hits, you must have also been a fan of Kirby Smart when he wore the red and black. He flat out declined contact on several occasions last year, especially in the South Carolina game against Lattimore.

It's the name. Just like the hype surrounding the "dream team" just b/c we slapped a label on them.

My father and I were discussing this and he broached the idea that 1. maybe Commings is just a better option, and 2. he is probably a better pass coverage guy since he moved over from corner (where he was pretty good). We all know Boise is good at running the ball, but their pass plays are what get news. Maybe Rambo is still considered first string, but more apt to play against run oriented teams?

100% agree with 9:29 and 9:32. Rambo was not quick to bust anyone's head last year and downright avoided big hits, at times allowing ball carriers 5-10 more yards as a result.

I don't care what he has or hasn't done. I want the best 11 players on the field. Anyone want to dispute that Commings, Williams, B Smith and B Boykin AREN'T among our best 11?

maybe against s carolina Commings will line up at CB and cover Jeffery which will allow Rambo to play Safety, but in a base look against most teams, Rambo should be on the outside looking in. No drama. Just a fact.

Rambo had one hit in the Auburn game that was solid but not explosive. Revisit the hit and it was more of the Auburn player dropping it than Rambo delivering the blow. Was it a hard hit, yep. But not explosive. Rambo has been a liability at safety for quite some time. I was surprised he was not moved down to LB but I guess CTG didn't like his size down there. He is a liability in the secondary not for run support but for not being able to read play action. He looked lost in space against USCe and did not improve as the season went on. So in all honesty, rambo being beaten out or suspended, makes little difference to me. Ultimately, I think we have more sound players in the secondary without him.

All anon posters...regardless of Rambo's play, or lack there of, you are missing the point. If he is the best option at safety and he is suspended, where does that leave the secondary? What that tells me is that the Dawgs now start someone WORSE than Rambo against a prolific passing team. Does that equate to good news for you?

Skeptic, I'm not sold that he IS better.

Are you?

I personally think he was one of our big problems on D last season. He seems clueless half of the time and his tackling is suspect at best.

Speaking only for myself, I'm not so much concerned with who the player in question is but, rather, Coach Richt's approach on discussing said player's situation. I just find it interesting, is all, that he continues to seemingly skirt the details. It is, however, completely possible that I've fixated on this issue of late due to my general state of agitation as we approach the season.

Muddy, I think I find myself in the same place, but with the opposite effect.

As for Richt's vaugeness, there are suspensions, but he doesn't want to tip his hand. If he discusses Bacarri, then he has to talk about the others (or be lying about Bacarri). It is weird Bacarri is listed on the depth chart if he is suspended, at least to me.

I know one thing for certain, I am ready for some football.

Yeah, the whole depth chart thing is strange. Although it's worthy to note that there were player omissions that were later confirmed to be ready to play. And to further add to the intrigue, according to a tweet by Seth Emerson, Coach Richt said earlier that Bacarri has "been preparing. He's getting all the reps."

I've been saying it all year, Rambo is the team's biggest problem. That he may have been beaten out is the best news of the preseason. Hit? Hit what? He hits about like "The Hitman". Both those guys are laughingstocks.

That he has little idea how to play his position doesn't help much, either. Best thing for Georgia is for Rambo to ride the pine, or maybe transfer.
