Why the AJC is such a joke
A UGA player not getting arrested for receiving a relatively minor citation makes the paper. While a two year long NCAA investigation into Georgia Tech resulting in sanctions goes unreported until the final day of the process.
That's not a shot at Chip Towers. It's a huge shot at the gross incompetence and/or negligence of the former Tech beat writer and the AJC's Sports Editor. Every time I think I'm done commenting on the GT thing...I get dragged back into it.

80 / 20 Rule... No one cares about tech they care about Georgia. If I have 4 reporters and 1 of them stinks... I'm putting the smelly one at Tech, and the 3 others at UGA.
In other news. Richt apparently read your article about having Branden Smith and Crowell on the field at the same time... Someone might be giving up their jersey number.
Maybe
Far be it from me to defend the AJC, but I have a friend who is extremely well connected at tech and he found out about the football investigation about 2 days before we all did.
Hits drive this. Those evil football players and their lawbreaking ways at UGA garner hits from all comers.
Tech? Meh.
AJC stopped being a legitimate media outlet when Jessie Outlar retired. They solidified it when they gave Barnhardt his walking papers. Chip is the only one there doing legit reporting and they keep trying to run him off.
Newt:
So what you're telling me is that interest in the Georgia Tech program is so low that even their own top-notch boosters don't care to know what's going on in the program? Sounds about right.
I don't disagree with you that Tech's investigation was one of the best examples I've EVER seen about keeping leaks out of your AA offices, but if there was a journalist covering Tech that had half of an idea of what to look for, he would've found something. The fact that no one even knew there was even an investigation until sanctions were levied is absurd.
As far as this situation goes, it's a joke. If Chip felt like he had to write this because his superiors would want him to, then he has my respect, because his job must REALLY suck.
Newt - did your friend put in a basic FOIA request related to any ongoing NCAA investigations or inquiries regarding ANY Georgia Tech athletic program?
It's not a cover up if no one is looking.
Luda and PWD-
You're both right, he wasn't looking and never filed a FOIA request. All I was saying is that it was very well kept, even internally, if he had no idea about it. So well kept that unless a reporter just decided to file an FOIA request for the hell of it, they wouldn't have any idea what was going on.
And damn both of you for making me feel like I'm defending AJC reporters. And since I've got your attention, PWD, Tyler's been a nice addition to the site. Good to see regular content here again.
