2012 Schedule Rumor: UGA vs. Bama in Athens

The SEC is a near mortal lock to operate with an 8 game SEC schedule in 2012. As I've said numerous times, this will be temporary before the SEC ultimate goes to a 9 game schedule in 2-4 years.

With that in mind, we had been projecting that UGA would drop a road game at Bama from the 2012 UGA schedule in favor of a road game at Missouri. With the new 6-1-1 divisional rotation, this seemed to make the most sense and have the smallest impact on everyone involved. In that scenario, UGA's SEC West opponents would be Auburn (road) and Ole Miss (home).

However, we've hit a snag. PowerMizzou is reporting that Missouri's SEC West schedule will include Ole Miss (road) and Texas A&M (home). This means, Ole Miss is off the table to come to Athens.

Billy Lucci of TexasAgs.com is reporting that Texas A&M's SEC East opponents will be Missouri (permanent) and Florida. Mr. SEC is reporting that Tennessee's SEC West opponents will be Bama (permanent) and Mississippi State next year. (He also theorizes on some other match-ups which aren't a done deal).

If the rumors above are correct, Ole Miss, Miss State and Texas A&M are off the table as rotational opponents for UGA next year. That only leaves Alabama, Arkansas and LSU as options. More than likely, it looks like Bama will be coming to Athens.

However, Bama doesn't have an SEC road game to give. That means some other SEC West opponent will be swapping home/away dates with Bama next year. I project that type of movement is already in the cards for the MSU vs. UK game (which will likely stay in Lexington in 2012). As well as the Vandy vs. Ole Miss game which will likely be in Nashville again this year.

More than likely, it would be Arkansas going back to Tuscaloosa in 2012. Again...this all assumes the first 3 leaks are correct.

What do you think about Bama coming to Athens in 2012?

Time to avenge the blackout game.

Time for another blackout!

Bama coming to Athens is a chance to get the manhood back they took from us in 2008.

If you want to be a big boy, you've got to go toe to toe with them. If you're going to go toe to toe, might as well do it in your front yard.

I'd rather drop Bama and keep Ole Miss just to help ourselves get back to Atlanta, but games like this are good opportunities to measure the program against the best and see where we are. If some more slight changed are made this offseason, we may not be as far off as 42-10 indicates.

Bring them in. Let's seal up some recruits while we're at it.

I'm all for whatever improves next year's horrible home schedule.

Looking forward to going to a 9 game conference schedule. That will mean 4 SEC home games every year instead of every other year.

Would love to get Bama next year. They lose 9 starters that are seniors plus 6 more seniors on the two deep. Add to that the chance that Richardson, Kirkpatrick, Hightower are all likely to go pro and possibly even Lester. Next year they will be more like 2010 than the team they have this year, that is really good but not great.

Anon 9:10,

He is a cross between Brad Pitt, Steve Buschemi, Ving Rhames, and Silvio Berlusconi. With Robert Pattinson's hair (circa 2008). In short, photos don't begin to capture him.

Im all for it. We need to see where we are. I hope some of our guys don't leave early for the NFL. We should be loaded next year.

How about a Bowl Pick 'em League??

PowerMizzou is also reporting that Georgia will not be fielding a basketball team next year.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing given our current state for those who don't even know basketball has started.

Let's finally admit the East is down. Gotta be when Vandy looks to be more of a threat than UF or UT. We could whip 'em all and still not know how we'd stack up in the SECCG. To gauge where we're at, best to play top teams from the West mid-season. So bring on 'Bama!

I don't see Arkansas having to go to Bama for a 2nd year in a row. Arky fans would be furious and who could blame them?

We will probably have to go to Bama as the schedule already calls and get Mizzou at home in place of Ole Miss. If the logic of us playing at Mizzou is really that we already have 3 SEC East home games, that isn't really true. We are the designated home team next season in Jax. Our only true SEC East home games are UT and Vandy.

Anon - 9:49...something has to change. If we go to 14 teams, Mizzou and TAMu can't play each other twice. So...something from last year's rotation has to change. Probably several things.
