Final Thoughts on the BCS Championship Game

Random stuff that went through my mind during and following the BCS National Championship Game:
  • Alabama is the better coached team. No wonder LSU fans are still mad at Saban leaving Baton Rouge.
  • I thought using the height difference between the Alabama receivers and the one LSU corner back that got thrown at a bunch was genius. It takes a lot of 'want to' to over come a seven inch height difference regardless of your moniker.
  • I am convinced Alabama's defense is the best in the country in 40 years. Give props to Smart/Saban for coaching them up, but even Ted Roof could have coached that bunch up. There are no less than seven likely future NFL starters in that group.
  • There is some poetic justice to the number of FGs attempted (and made!) in the game, considering the number missed in the first match-up.
  • Also, if Oklahoma State fans want to be mad, be mad at Alabama's kickers for missing all those kicks in the first game. They hit one of them in regulation and the Cowboys play Alabama in New Orleans Monday night.
  • Any chance Bobby Hebert is East Bank BJ on the Tigger Droppings Board?
  • You think this win might get Saban a bigger statue?
Finally, is it April yet? I already miss football.

UGA had 11 NFL starters on the 2000 Defense, adn we sucked. It's all about coaching guys.

Maybe they'll add platform shoes to the Saban statue

I think the statue is already about 10' higher cause Saban became that much closer to heaven.
The new statue will be on lake Tuscaloosa because "he'll be walkin' on water" like brother Wyat Earp in tombstone!

I'll take the 1991 Washington Huskies defense as the best I've ever seen in college.

Also - are you suggesting that LSU would not have gotten the same fellatic treatment that Alabama did to get into the MNC game without even winning its division?

I am suggesting that. It is possible that they make it, but if it was a 15-6 or 12-6 game ('Bama missed their first three tries), I just don't see it happening.

A LOT of emphasis was placed on it being an OT game. If LSU loses by two scores (4 or more, considering no TDs are scored), I am confident Okie State makes it in. If they lose by three in regulation, I think there is more debate, but I think Okie State plays.

Lots of UGA fans are excited about recent recruiting gets & players coming back next year. And while that excites me too, recruiting has never been Richt's (or Georgia's) weak spot.

Bama surely is loaded with talent, but it's the Coaching that makes the difference. We don't have the Coaching talent they do.

Spurrier said it best back in the day: ""Why is it that during recruiting season they (UGA) sign all the great players, but when it comes time to play the game, we have all the great players? I don't understand that. What happens to them?"

Not much has changed since 1991 evidently.
