The Story of Howard's Rock

Not a rock.

With the recent damage to Howard's rock, I got to thinking about the majesty of 100+ grown ass men not falling down a hill to touch a rock running into Death Valley and touching Howard's Rock and how that became such an integral part of Clemson's lore.

I have dug up the most current research into how Howard's Rock became the iconic thing it has become:

Frank Howard was tired of the rock in his office and told the director of I Pay Ten Athletes A Year to throw it into any old derelict field. So it ended up in Memorial Stadium.
