Will Friend: Hot Seat

Look, I'm not saying Friend should be fired, but too much of what happened with the offensive line at Clemson has to do with coaching, starting with this:
Georgia was forced to rely on a silent cadence against Clemson’s home crowd, which played into the pass protection problems some.
I'm willing to give the defense a pass due to youth. What is the reasoning behind this for the offensive line's porous play? It isn't like Clemson's fans being loud snuck up on us. And the silent count didn't account for the poor middle of the line run blocking or holds.

While it is easy to just simply say it's the crowd, at some point you have to look in the mirror and assess if you are doing what it takes to communicate to your charges what you want accomplished. Or go about a different way of doing things. Loud stadiums might be hard to replicate in practice, but learning to function as a group unit isn't.

As a position group, I think the offensive line over performed last season. That was awesome and certainly buys Friend lots of credit with his coaches and the fan base. He's got his work cut out for him to make this group live up to it's promise become competent enough to keep us from finding out if Hutson Mason is really the answer.

I'm as befuddled as you are as to what happened on Saturday. However, like you said, I think Friend getting that bunch to overperform last year bought him some good will. I'm willing to give him a little more time before talking about a hot seat.

I would love to see us line up the Power I to pound it down their throats and then hit Rome with some play action.

What gets me is they looked like it was the South Carolina game all over again. One one hand, that scares me, because who we have coming to town this weekend. On the other, we more cohesively as a Oline unit after that game.

I'd love to see us line up in the 'I' as well. However, we couldn't block for ish towards the end of the 2nd quarter. I was curious why, if Marshall had to be in the game, we didn't use the toss sweep more.
