NFL Combine News

In no particular order:
- Shockley ran the 3rd fastest 40 yard dash of all QBs at 4.56. (AJC). Note: Scout.com's site didn't have him that fast.

- Q&A with Greg Blue (NFL.com / syndicated by the Falcons)

- Q&A with Demario Minter (NFL.com syndicated by the Falcons)

- Shockley will work out at WR and Blue at LB at the combine. (Scout.com)

In Nerd News. The "freakishly gifted" (air quotes work better than real ones) Demarious Bilbo ran a pedestrian 4.68 and 4.73 at the combine.

And the shocker to me...Brodie "Bad Knees" Croyle ran a 4.87. That's faster than uber hyped Omar Jacobs of Bowling Green. Who woulda thunk it?

I'm sure you heard about VY's rumored Wonderlic Score of a 6! Jeremy Bloom ran a 4.51, he has ran in the past a 4.35, so that's surprising. Reggie McNeal ran a 4.35 and his stock is starting to rise. I have a feeling McNeal will be looked at as both a WR and QB.

Not surprised that Croyle ran a fast 40 -- all the practice he had running for his life from opposing DEs in the latter half of the '05 season, he should fast.

It's good to see Shockley doing so well. I would love to see him stun the rest of the field by getting picked by a ballsy NFL squad in the 1st or 2nd round and then going on to assemble a kick-ass pro career -- it would certainly help people forget about Quincy's Not-So-XCellent NFL Adventure.

I read in the AJC this morning that the GM of the Texans dispelled the Vince-Young-bombed-the-Wonderlic rumor. I know the Texans just re-signed David Carr to a surprisingly fat contract, but it seems like the fact that their GM was standing up for VY puts Vince back in the mix to be the top draft pick. If I were Houston I'd take him over Reggie Bush and it wouldn't even be close.

The Vince Young thing is a smeer campaign. It's bush league and not true, but the rumor is going around. As Doug said, it's being refuted now by guys that aren't going to draft him. So that's a good sign.

BTW -- I know the guys training Bloom. He's been prepping for both the Olympics and the Combine. Very different work and difficult to cross train for.

They expect his 40 time to improve at the on campus workouts.

Regardless, he's much faster on skis than Chad Jackson or Braylon Edwards.

I agree with Doug -- when your life is on the line (read: Swiss cheese o-line), you find foot speed is a nice thing to have. If Croyle could just get with a team whose receivers can actually catch the ball, he could be an MVP within three seasons. But he won't get any respect (see: Alexander, Shaun).
