Mike Davis has to be shaking his head

His entire argument at Indiana was that they needed an Indiana man. So they didn't seriously consider Steve Alford, and they look to have hired OU's Kelvin Sampson.

I don't get it.

What an odd choice. They hired the guy that Davis beat in the Tourney a few years back to get to the title game in Atlanta. I wonder if Davis lands at UAB.

Lot of pressure there to make it look like the hire wasn't racially based.
I'm really not that surprised by this move.

OMG...this has to be totally race-based to "make up" for forcing Davis out. I'm a fairly big IU fan, and am not a fan of Davis or Sampson. In fact, I think Sampson is one of the more over-rated coaches of his generation.

Dear God- if you're not going to hire Alford- whom I never thought was the best choice, incidentally- then go hire Rick Majerus. At which point this hire seems to have made sense is beyond me.

Thank God they didn't go after Beiline!

As a big UAB hoops fan, I would be extremely happy if the Blazers snagged Davis. Happier still if we scheduled Texas Tech and Indiana out-of-conference and proceeded to beat both of them.

Honestly, I don't get all these race based conspiracy theories.

Sampson is like half black, 1/4 american indian and 1/4 white. If I recall his career correctly, he has never been embraced by the Black Coaches Association b/c "he isn't black enough."

I think Sampson was hired b/c IU doesn't know what they want.

I see your point PWD, but with this hire they wont have to hear from liberal whackos saying they fired a black coach to get a white one. I don't think some of these people care what minority gets the job, as long as its not a white guy...as ridiculous as that sounds.
