Was it over when the Germans Bombed Pearl Harbor?

Uga V vs. Robert Baker in '96

People say that there's no chance the Dawgs pull out an upset. But crazier things have happened in the series.

1996
Things looked bleak in 1996. We were heading to the plains a few weeks after a disasterous loss at Kentucky (24-17). In Lexington, QB Mike Bobo turned the ball over what seemed like a dozen times. Robert Edwards was playing like complete crap. Donnan benched both of them for the Auburn game.

Things didn't get any better on the Plains as we started down 28-7 before something amazing happened. Georgia. Got. Hot. Bobo and Edwards returned to the game, and they combined with Corey Allen, the defense and Hines Ward to change the game. Four amazing overtimes later, the Dawgs had pulled out a 56-49 victory. David Ching has more on the '96 Game.

1994
Auburn was on a 20 game undefeated streak. A 4-4 Georgia team ties the Tigers to stop Terry Bowden's streak. Totally and completely unexpected. Especially considering the Dawgs went 5-6 the year before.

1986
The Game Between the Hoses. Georgia wins 20-16 and upsets a very highly touted Auburn team. The Game ends with Georgia fans storming the field only to see the WarEaglePlainsMen Grounds Crew turn the hoses on the Dawgs. Check this blog for memories of the Hoses game.

The point? Anything can happen in this series. And we need something special to happen because with Rutgers beating Louisville, Auburn will be playing us with a shot at the National Title game on the line. While our guys are playing for their dignity and to avoid a trip to Shreveport.

Go Dawgs.

I had an oppurtunity to meet Robert Baker while he was working his "other" job at Auburn.

And there's more, actually. Not all of it is good, but some is. Like Michael Johnson's last minute catch that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat a few games back.
:)

Oh, and their last minute catch/fumble-out-of-the-end-zone also snatching victory for them last year.
:(

Still, exciting as hell, no matter how you look at it. It's a great series, every year.

Yep - yesterday's victory by the University of New Jersey did us no favors as AU knows that a W keeps them right on track for a BCS bid.

My biggest fear/frustration is all the things we've struggled with lately: turnovers, tackling, special teams fit nicely into what AU does well. We need to play a perfect game to win.

Go Dawgs!!

The Germans were a little more formidable than that SEC cellar-dwelling team that shares it's name with a synthetic sexual lubricant.

I am a Dawg fan, so I had to point out that we are not as dumb as the title of this blog makes us sound!!! The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, and at least 99% of all dawg fans know that, so don't start the jokes.

Anonymous 10:46, I'm afraid the joke may be on you my friend. That's a quote from the movie Animal House. Go rent it,I think that will clear things up.

Anon - Senator Blutarsky would beg to differ with you.

"It's only over when we say it's over."

If you criticize anon 10:46, then isn't this an indictment of our educational system? And I put it to you, isn't this an indictment of our entire American society?

Well, you do what you want to us, but we won't sit here and let you badmouth the United States of America!

Rickdog, you can't make fun of my posters. Only I can make fun of my posters.

He can't do that do that to our anonymous posters.
Only we can do that to our anonymous posters.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

What the f*@k happened to the Dawgs I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Auburn? Dead man! Georgia Tech? Dead!

(man, y'all have opened the floodgates now!)

Hey, Auburn....see my thumb?

Gee, you're dumb.

(the preceding several posts will be lost on all Aubrun fans; if they could read, they still wouldnt get any level of humor and/or irony beyond what one might experience in a monologue by Larry The Cable Guy. If, in the Kingdom of the Blind, the one-eyed man rules, I can only imagine that in Lee County, Alabama, Larry would be the Emperor for Life of the School of Sociology and Football Eligibility.

chew on that one, you stump jumpin' hicks (if you can get someone to quit mouth breathing long enough to read this to you)
