Coach Felton's Kuwait Diary

University of Georgia Coach Dennis Felton (2nd,R) and his Camp Virginia Scorpions wait for the start of the second half of their Opening Day game in the Hardwood III Tournament at Camp Arifjan, May 23, 2007 in Kuwait. NCAA basketball coaches are holding a tournament of military teams, sponsored by the USO to boost morale among US troops.

Dennis Felton is one of several college basketball coaches currently touring Kuwait as part of a USO group called Operation Hardwood III. The coaches leading teams of military basketball players on this tour include Mike Brey (ND), Skip Prosser (Wake Forest), Jim Crews (Army), Fran Fraschilla (ESPN) and others.

Felton's diaries are interesting in that he talks about the games, and he discusses the personalities on the team. For instance, he jokes about his 6'1" 225 lb power forward needing to put on 100 or so pounds before the weekend tourney. It's a long read, but you can tell that he's enjoying the trip. It's a helluva a good thing he and the other coaches are doing.

Is there a better way to celebrate Memorial Day than by honoring our troops in person?

Friday's entry talks about the tourney. For past entries, you can go here.
