Rivals.com Debuts the Rivals 250

The top 250 recruits in the country get 4 or more stars from Rivals. Actually, they give out more four stars than that, but that's beside the point. This week Rivals released the Top 250 kids in a pack. However, they haven't gone in and ranked each specific kid against the others. Yet.

I personally think that it's a sketchy process ranking kids before their senior year of high school. Regardless of the recruiting service. However, I'm a sucker for it. It provides a framework for discussing relative strengths of kids and programs. Plus, kids move up or down as their seasons progress.

AJ Green's HS video (turn the volume down if at work)

In the latest rankings, Georgia's commit list has more stars than the red carpet on Oscar night. Nine of Georgia's 12 commitments are rated 4 stars or higher by Rivals. Last year 12 of our 23 commitments were rated that highly by the Rivals network.

Six of the committed recruits are from the state of Georgia. Only 15 kids in the state have been given 4 stars, and we already have six locked up. Not too shabby.

One of the great conversation pieces that Rivals provided was a breakdown of players by state and position. The guys over on Scout.com's site keep using the term juggernaut. I personally can't think of a better word to describe this year's recruiting, and we've still got almost nine months left.

Man, that watching that video has to make a UGA fan smile, esp all the high over-the-middle passes that show he is simply fearless. It is also a lot like watching GaTech the last few years with Ball throwing to Johnson.

WOW, Green looks like a superstar in the making--I just hope we can keep him focused on us. But, on a side note, who is that QB throwing those passes to him?! Every single one of those looked spot on!

Stafford the senior throwing to Green the sophomore will be amazing to watch. Especially since collegiate recievers peak earlier than other skill-position players, ie, Sidney Rice and Calvin J.

Watch it again. his QB was super late with most of those passes. he just made his QB look great.

Great set of hands on Green; good speed too.

As an aside, that has to be the bravest quarterback I've ever seen. Or the slowest getting rid of the ball. The kid is lucky to be alive.

It's hard to believe that the kid in this video is what? 16? 17 years old at the time?

Good grief.

Are any of those defensive backs going Div 1? I mean you can see the potential in the kid, but there is a ton of crappy tackling and kids playing out of position. As a dawg fan though, you have to love watching that video and thinking about the future possibilities.

First Summerville H.S. is notorious for "red shirting" players, holding back,so who knows how old AJ actually is.
Second I watched AJ play in the state championship game in 04, I think, against Gaffeny, where my brother is a coach, and he had a decent game but not spectacular. I was watching him because I'd heard UGA was already recruiting the kid.
Now don't get me wrong I'm as excited as any Dawg fan about the kid but he is just that, a KID. Lets wait until he plays against an SEC corner before we declare him Heisman material.
Let us not forget how many SUPER recruits turned out to be busts or underachievers.I hope that's not the case with AJ because he looks to have all the tools necessary to be a big time receiver. But you just never know until they suite up and play with the big boys.

ok - First off...if you saw him in the State Championship game in 2004, he was a FRESHMAN in high school. So blowing up in that game would've been quite unexpected.

Second, for those living in GA. Summerville is the Valdosta of the State of South Carolina. They play at the highest level in the biggest division.

He's still going against HS DBs, but it's not like watching Brandon Miller play WR against single A DBs in rural S. GA.

It's not what he does after that catch that interests me. That's a function of bad DB play. It's what he does with the ball in the air on *tough* catches. It's his route running, body control, agility and hands that excite me.

Speaking of recruits, it looks like OT Trinton Sturdivant is making a name for himself. In this article he is named a top ten impact freshmen....

Actually, Byrnes is the top of the best in SC, but Summerville is a solid program, but Gaffney is usually pretty good too.

Another solid recruit committing today. This one out of the U's backyard.

Mr. Westerdawg,
Thank you for illustrating my point. You say he was a FRESHMAN in '04 so that would make him maybe 15, theoretically . Now he's going to be a senior so he will be 18 which by today's standards is still a kid.
You're right he looks to have great hands and an amazing ability to go get the football. All I'm saying is don't get too excited over a kid who hasn't stepped on a college football field yet.

Looks a lot like Calvin Johnson when he was in High School, except Summerville has a much better program than Sandy Creek H.S. (or was it Fayette County?)I don't care how old he is, you could scour YouTube, Scouts, etc. and not find a receiver for 08 with that good of body control, hands , concentration, and also toughness. It seems as though when he wants to get the ball he goes and gets it, even when double covered (even if i t is only HS school kids, AJ was making nice catches in double coverage on balls he had to adjust to b/c it wasn't a good throw)
