Georgia vs. Auburn Injury and Personnel Updates

The Moreno the Better

Thoughts on Troy vs. UGA later. For now...

Updates around the Dawg Nation as of tonight:
-- The AJC says that Thomas Brown may play vs. Auburn, but Richt isn't saying how much because it all depends on how he practices on Tuesday. The AJC also says that Kade Weston's ankle looks to be in pretty solid shape.

-- Update: Ching has more injury news from the Sunday conference call.

-- DawgPost.com explains why Remarcus Brown and Asher Allen were both returning kickoffs. Apparently, Asher was just winded from playing so much DB. Editorial: Why on earth was Prince Miller one of the blocking backs for the kickoff return team? We've got umpteen fullbacks and tight ends. Is it really the best idea to have one of the smallest men on the team blocking in that spot? He's not always out there, but it makes no sense to me when he is.

-- AUTigers.com ($) says that the Tigers are in pretty good shape despite playing 10 games in a row without a bye week. Plus, it sounds like they're getting damn near everyone back for the Georgia game. Groves played on Saturday vs. TTU; although, he played linebacker instead of DE. One of the reasons the 10 games in a row might not hurt the Tigers is the heavy, heavy use of backups vs Tennessee Tech.

-- Auburn has a new #2 quarterback; although, they don't plan on using him. They expect Cox to go the distance.
Unrelated, but interest:
Tony Barnhart talks about conference champion and BCS scenarios in the AJC. It's interesting that Tommy Bowden now controls his own destiny at Clemson. Can you imagine Clemson vs. Georgia in the Orange Bowl? It's a huge stretch but possible if Clemson wins out, Georgia wins out, LSU loses to ARK, and UT loses to LSU in the SEC Championship game. So you're saying there's a chance. We could also play them in the Sugar Bowl, but that would require another very long list of things. Regardless, it would be cooler than playing a half-assed Hawaii team.

RE: Auburn
A positive for UGA is that in the past 2 games we have tallied around 9 sacks and 2 INTs. If we learned anything last year, the formula against Auburn is to clog up their running game and get pressure on Cox and be ready to catch his errant throws. Cox is flappable and we can let him sit back and find WRs.

RE: Hawaii
If UGA plays Hawaii's schedule this year, there is no doubt we are undefeated. They have played no one, zip, nada. They have one legitimate game this season. I am not a proponent of the computers usually, but right now they are NR (not rated) in the computer polls and the highest BCS team to have an NR in their rankings.

I totally understand the point you're trying to make, but nevertheless, I would shy away from talking about not wanting to play Possibly Overrated Team X in the Sugar Bowl. Things didn't work out too well the last time we went into it with that kind of attitude.

I am not saying that Hawaii isn't a good team, or at least a difficult team to play. Obviously, we learned Saturday that a spread, pass-happy team can move the ball on us. My point is they have played only one Div I team with a winning record.

PWD: What do you think the odds are of Gameday in Athens?

re: gameday

We're the best game of the day, but we're on CBS. ESPN has broken character and attended two CBS games already this year (UF at LSU and LSU at UK).

I'm not sure that they'll do a third.

They have UM at Wisconsin, but it's a 12:00 start. Most of the fans will abandon the Gameday set to get into the stadium by then.

And they have USC at Cal, but that game is totally meaningless.

If they wanted to be fun, they would do UConn at Cincy. That would be symbolic of the entire upside down nature of the season.

Yeah, I think Gameday should go to the UConn-Cincy game and do a "WKRP in Cincinnati" theme. Lee Corso would make a perfect Les Nessman, and they could invite Loni Anderson onto the set as a special guest.

mI'm with Doug, but only if they get Loni to show.

Loni would be nice but I'd settle for Jan Smithers. I wonder if Chris Fowler could get a Herbesque afro going in time for Saturday? Would Herbstreit be Andy or Johnny Fever? Since it's close to Thanksgiving, they could drop live turkeys over the field via helicopter. Turkey can fly, right? I'm sure they can.

Back to reality though, I wouldn't mind seeing UGA take on June Jones and Hawaii. We'll play Clemsom again soon enough. I'd really like to see us play Texas. We don't do that nearly often enough and this year I think we match up pretty well.
