Mikey Henderson's Catch vs. the Gators

Scott Howard with an exceptional call of the action. This catch was directly in front of me, and it's one of the best / toughest big game catches I've seen up close. The endzone view was even more impressive.

By the way, watch how two Florida linebackers and a safety react to the play action fake to Moreno. That's the power of establishing a running game.

Awesome catch by Mikey. However, and with all due respect, a lame call by Howard. "Holy Smokes"?!? I was very relieved to hear Munson was calling the home games this season... I cannot imagine 12-14 games all called by Howard. In my opinion, he was sub par, at best, last season. When Munson retires, I'm personally hoping Georgia wises up and decides on a different play-by-play man than Howard.

It's long past time for Munson to go. Howard may need work, but Munson is simply not understandable if you have no video. Yes, it's great for people that get every game on TV and can go back and hear his big calls afterwards, but for out-of-market fans that don't get video for 2-3 games each year, it's just awful to listen to.

"One and done, baby"

Howard makes a legendary call in his first full game....he'll never have the Munson's cadence, but Howard's pure unbridled love for UGA is a pleasure to listen to...

I'll never forget how much joy Howard and Zeier expressed at the sight of seeing Florida's fans leaving the WLOCP early...they mocked, laughed, and gloated the entire time...

I can't wait to hear Howard for another 30 years....

Besides thinking munson can still get it done, I agree with the first poster. Howard needs some serious work! I cringed at some of his calls a year ago. Maybe I'm just use to how great Munson was and most anyone would pale in comparison. As Ray Goff once said: "It's tough to follow a legend." I think Scotty figured that out in '07.

Little over a month before the season begins. I'm ready to light this mother up!

I'm not certain, but I thinks perhaps the "smokes" was going to be something else before Scott caught himself. There's a little pause there.

He's not, nor will he ever be Munson.............................but he lives and breaths UGA. I like Howard myself, but they need to can Zeier and put Jeff Dantzler in the booth with Howard. Man come on Football.............
GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!
THWGT!!!!!!!!!!

There was definitely a pause before "smokes." A very tiny one, but it's there.

Is it August 30th yet?

MOST of Munson's calls weren't legendary. Most of them were "Great Catch" or "Wow" or "Gosh all mighty."

He has a few dozen "legendary" calls in the span of a 40 year career. It's just that with the DVDs/Videos that we remember them so vividly.

There aren't many Hobnail Boots or Steel Chairs or Sugar Falling from the Skys as you might think.

That's not to take away from Munson. It's just it is what is.

The biggest thing that Scott has going for him is that he sincerely loves UGA, and it vividly comes through in his voice.

Give him time. Munson had probably 15 years of play by play experience doing Wyoming and Vandy before he got to Athens, and it took him almost 10 years to be a died in the wool Dawg fan.

Scott has 10+ years of Hoops Play by Play. But that was his first season of Football. I think he did a helluva a job.

Howard mainly need to cut down on the shouting. I know he's excited or whatever, but it's pretty annoying for a whole game. There are better ways to communitcate excitment, using infections or tone or whatever.

Anon 5:30, I hope that was inflection, not infection...anyways, I enjoyed Scott, however Zeir must go.

There are a lot of experts out there. Howard has waited and the job will be his. He deserves it. He will come into his own as the football guy. I'm just glad we don't have to listen to Buck Belue.

First of all...God Bless Mikey Henderson. Howard is going to be great for UGA Football. I love Larry, but the truth is that he's not very informative any more. It's his gig, and he's earned it, but Howard does a better play by play.

As for Zeier, I thought the criticism of him was way too harsh. Truthfully, if we leave him in the booth, our fan base will be better football educated in 10 years. We've had a booth with 2 "broadcast guys" (Larry & Scott) for too long. We need a football guy in there to tell us about coverages and blocking schemes. Dantzler would not work with that. It would be more shouting. I think we Dawgs just have to get used to it, but I like Scott's enthusiasm with Eric's tactical approach. Just my 2 cents.

As many of you, I've listened to many CFB play-by-play announcers over the years (recently, thanks to satellite radio). Honestly, I think Scott ranks within the lower tier of them all. I know he has only one season under his belt, and will likely improve, but his shouting is over the top and annoying. Howard is better than Larry, since Munson's time past a long time ago. However, I'm with Anon 1 and think UGA can find someone much better. Who cares if Scott has waited his turn or has a passion and love for Georgia. Last time I checked, that doesn't necessarily qualify someone to be the play-by-play announcer for one of CFB's elite programs.

I don't think most of the people on here realize how tough it is to do play-by-play. I thought Scott Howard did a great job last year. He will only get better. I do agree that the shouting was a little much, but so what. It's better than the alternative (See: Fox's Sugar Bowl announcers). Howard will get away from the screaming. He's a pro. He was just trying to get into the groove of football last year.
