Rumor: ESPN The Magazine Cover for Georgia

A little birdy told me recently that the Georgia Bulldogs will be on the cover of ESPN The Magazine's Aug. 18th edition which (I think) actually comes out some time late this week. I assume that it's their College Football Preview issue.

This isn't "double sourced," but this person had been solid with their tidbits before. Besides, it's a free blog. You get what you pay for.

Now...if I'm wrong about it, I don't blame my source. Blame ESPN for chickening out and naming someone else #1 in the wake of Trinton Studivant's injury. No doubt that ESPN College Gameday Live just threw the Dawgs off a cliff this afternoon.
"No, I don't think UGA is #1 anymore." -- Andre Ware
If I had my way, the cover would look like this...

Unfortunately, I don't get a vote on cover designs. Be cooler if I did.

ESPN is owned by ABC. Which just happens to be broadcasting the USC/OSU game. So naturally they want a #1 vs. #2 match up. To hell with research, Its all about money.

We have 2 or 3 guys that can play LT, and with CSS in charge...he will have our OL kicking tail and taking names. BTW, have you seen the size of Cordy Glenn....HUGE!!! I predict he's going to this year's Sturdivant.

I hate that ESPN threw the Dawgs under the bus on College Football Live this afternoon. I know it's a hit to lose TS, but isn't he the only major player injury since the ranking came out? All the others were either before or were minor players, right? But I guess I shouldn't expect much from ESPN anyway...

What exactly did ESPN say on College Football Live?

They just said that Georgia was a shaky #1 to begin with and now we have injuries. I just do not get who they think deserves #1 instead. Even though I'm a homer, I can not think of another team that deserves it more than us. USC has a QB who is not practicing b/c of an injury and does not have that many starters returning.. tOSU?? Hell no. A lot of the analysts for ESPN have their own agenda where they always pick certian teams to win and others that they always pick to lose. Bruce Feldman was one of the guys bashing UGA today and I remember he picked Hawaii to win the Sugar bowl...

I love that picture. In the background, you can see Meyer and other coaches with their arms up in a "what the hell is going on" look. On the TS injury, hasn't UF lost their big impact Tight End Ingram for the year as well? I would think that would be a bigger lose to them with their offense. But according the the media today the TS injury seems to have already determined the downfall of our season. I don't get it.

To add...as of today, Florida has also lost two more to knee injuries: an OL and a MLB. So that is a total of 5 players lost to knee injuries for the gators. Losing TS today is not good, but we will be fine with the rotation Coach chooses.

If I had my way, the cover would be a picture of Mark May's head exploding...pieces of flesh projecting outward to reveal the Georgia logo where his head used to be.

Oh, and the background would include a Pitt Panther being crucified.

add to that Urban Meyer being chewed up by Uga VII and Erin Andrews looking on topless, and you've got the cover of the century.

Or better yet, Uga VII laying the meat to Erin Andrews from behind...

When I wrote that, I had no idea anyone would go that far.

But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't glad that you did.

Umm, yeah, that's a bit tacky. I have respect for Erin when she's doing LSU or Florida games, though I do tend to know where you're coming from. From behind, not so much. . .

When I heard of TS's injury and saw everyone freaking out, I thought about this article:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/columns/story?columnist=joyner_kc&id=3521823&action=upsell&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnfl%2finsider%2fcolumns%2fstory%3fcolumnist%3djoyner_kc%26id%3d3521823

Sorry that's it's a pay site, but I remember reading it once and you can get the drift from the intro. I thoroughly enjoyed The Blind Side, but I do think the left tackle is overrated. I agree that whoever replaces TS will not be as good. But they'll be as good as he was the beginning of last year. Remember, he was a true freshman last year, and whoever replaces him will have some playing time and/or scout team experience against college linemen.

Besides, how much difference does a left tackle make? A horrible left tackle gives up a sack a game, so that's 6 yards your team loses a game, or about 1.5% of UGA's average output of 400 yards again. As for running the ball, that takes so little time for the running back to reach the line that the lineman just has to basically stand in the way to do his job.

There are plenty more players more valuable then Trinton: Asher Allen, Prince Miller, Dannell Ellerbe, Reshad Jones, KM, MS, Blair Walsh are all players I think are more valuable. They have much more of an impact on scoring.

I agree.

Our bread and butter the last couple of years has been Iso's, Screen Passes and the Play Action pass. If we relied really heavily on the shotgun, I might be more concerned.

As long as the play action RB can slow down the pass rush with decent blocking, we should be ok.

Sturdivant is a major loss and I hope he gets well soon, but the loss won't hurt us as much as it would many other teams.

im going to have to frame both the SI and ESPN covers to add to my georgia room..

the dawgs will be fine without sturdivant.. promise

What about the toss sweeps. It was amazing, we ran them and got good production (see the second half of "the rivalry" for proof.

If this team wants to win a championship they have to be able to deal with the loss of a key player. Look at Glenn Dorsey, he missed half of last season after Tommy "Chops" Tubberville sent out a hit on him. We have had a couple of good recruiting classes on the oline, and we have the best oline coach in the nation. We'll be fine. It's a heck of a lot better than if it happened in the first quarter of the LSU game.

I'm of the opinion that it's a big loss but that it came early enough in camp that I trust Searels/Bobo have a good idea what to do.

We also have 2 winnable game for the new OL to work together and gel before the SCU-ASU-Bama stretch.

Thank God...some sense is starting to come back to everybody.

It's not like Sturdivant was a senior and the obvious leader of the line.

OF COURSE IT SUCKS LOSING HIM...

But, damn...we are loaded on the line...FINALLY.

We'll be fine. He'll be on the sidelines to help coach his replacement.

And next year we'll get him back.

In the meantime...GO DAWGS!

BTW...does anyone remember that Sturduvant left the Hawaii game early favoring his knee?

This was bound to happen. Better now than than at USC or later.

From what I have heard - Knowshon is on the cover by himself...

It'd be a whole lot cooler if you did. Hey... watch the leather man.

Did anyone else think that Andre Ware bore a really strong resemblance to Sammy Davis, Jr.? Even the way he moved his head and spoke; it was like Billy Crystal on the early 80s SNL.
