Coaching Carousel

Initially, I wondered if Auburn could afford to dump Tuberville given the $6 million buyout. Auburn's biggest boosters, Bobby Lowder (Banking) and Jimmy Raynes (Building Materials), are leading companies in America's two most screwed up industries not located in Detroit.

However, I forgot all about the incremental new $15 million in revenue that each SEC School will receive as part of the new SEC TV contracts with ESPN and CBS. When you have a check like that flowing into your banking account in July 2009, you've got both the confidence and the financial backing to do whatever the hell you want from a personnel standpoint. Realistically, that means that Mississippi State could out spend a school like Washington for a new coach if it really wanted.

Think about that middle aged co-worker that buys the Dodge Viper or Corvette. All the ladies know what that means....tiny tool. Auburn firing Tuberville sort of sends that message in a different way.

I don't know what Auburn is going to do from here. Rumors say they contacted Muschamp before the firing, and he expressed no interest in the position. Of course he didn't. He loved Auburn so much that he got the hell out of there as quick as possible to Texas the first chance he had. Who knows. Maybe they get him, but I'm skeptical. And I still don't think Leach is a viable personality fit. We'll see.

If I were Texas A&M's athletic director, I would think long and hard about fixing my Mike Sherman mistake with Tuberville. It's obvious how the Sherman thing is going to shake out.

Love the sports car analogy, and so incredibly true.

One of the names a buddy of mine and I kicked around for the MSU job would be Chris Hatcher. He's a proven winner and was a leading candidate for the Tech job before Paul Johnson came available last year.

I have no idea who Auburn goes for, but my guess is they go for a hot name instead of a smart hire. That fan base is so pissed after this year's debacle that I don't see them making a hire that fits their current personnel.

Willie is always an option at Auburn...

Unfortunately,

Hatcher is a little cold now after a couple of average at best seasons at GSC.

Don't overlook that Bobby Lowder's bank got a bailout yesterday...

That timing is interesting, too...

Hey PWD and anyone else who has an opinion on it, what do y'all think the chances are that the next HC comes calling to try and hire Searels and Gardner away?

Someone I was talking to brought this up earlier and I wanted to see what some others thought. I doubt CSS would go (I think his family loves Athens and Richt), but I could see Gardner flirting with it if he got an official DC title.

Love the aTm rumor - I would think absolutely - he'd be a very good fit there.

Most of the Barners I know have some muted skepticism over the whole thing - they loved to bash Tubs when he was there, but now that he's gone.....

Go Dawgs!!

I, too, worry about losing Rodney Gardner. I think that would be about as big a blow to our recruiting as you could make short of Richt being fired/leaving.

My understanding is that Searles likes it here and wouldn't leave. I will say that if he left because we didn't match an offer, we should just fire everyone and start over. (Hyperbole). I'd be pissed.

Auburn has f'd up. There is no body out there that's going to do better and put up with the same crapola. JMO, but there it is.

Also, why would ANYONE take the Mississippi State job? That's a deadend if there ever was one. The guys on the radio here nailed it: they need a Rich Brooks-type hire.

Now I am reading that Tubs resigned and the AD was shocked by it.

That leaves Auburn off the hook for his buyout.

Either Tubs took the high road or the stories are wrong.

I had a feeling that Tubs gave them the ol' FU. He never forgave Lowder for Petrino-gate. You gotta remember what kind of program AU is, as opposed to what kind of program AU thinks it is. God forbid, he has one bad season and they even debate firing him, he probably said enough with this crap.

And its GARNER, not Gardner!

I wouldn't worry about losing coach Gardner since we don't have one. We have Rodney Garner. Geniuses.

thank you Dan

If our recruiting on the defensive line is so good why is it pretty much every other team in the SEC can play with us or kick our ass? I am not sure it would be that big of a loss.

Rodney Garner is our recruiting coordinator. He recruits all positions. He was great and UT and their talent level dropped significantly once he came to Athens, and, lo and behold, ours rose. We can't lose Coach Garner

Future Defensive Coordinator of the Georgia Bulldogs: John Chavis of Tennessee

-I will seriously put a lot on the lines that this will happen.

One more thing, I heard that Georgia Tech already accepted a bid to the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, so what I would really like to see is a Georgia vs Georgia Tech in the Peach Bowl... REVENGE ON THE NERDS!

Kris - do you have inside info that is making you put down alot?? If not what makes you say that??

Thanks.

Chavis is interviewing at Clemson tomorrow, I believe.

Chavis will not be at Clemson @ JT..

Clemson will hire that interim head coach they had that finished the season (forgot his name)..

and @ Wes.
- I do not have any inside information on that, but I do have some friends that go to UT, and they said that talk around the campus is that Chavis & Richt have been talking..
I just feel really confident about this one

My apologies for saying "Gardner" instead of "Garner." I'm usually pretty good about that, so if I offended anyone named "Rodney Garner," I'm truly sorry. For everyone else, well, nevermind...still picking my battles.

And Kris, Chavis can't go to UGA if we don't have a spot for him. Clemson did hire Dabo Swinney as a HC, but he did fire his DC, so that leaves a spot open for Chavis.

I feel pretty confident in saying that our chances in getting Chavis lie somewhere in between "not at all" and "more likely to sleep with Gov. Palin."

JT said...

Yeah, they hired Dabo Swinney, but Dabo needs a staff, hence that's why Chavis is interviewing to be the DC at Clemson

Did TCU lock up Patterson? I am surprised we haven't heard his name thrown around. I hope Auburn wouldn't hire him, because I think he could do a good job there.

Also, Sherman at aTm was a mistake from day 1.

But the latest thing I have heard re: Auburn is that Bobby Lowder bought all the DVDs for "The System" and is planning to be the next HC on the Plains that way he not only runs things behind the scenes, but on the field also. Plus, it diversifies his interests in case the whole banking thing goes awry.

I have a source...Auburn hired Mike Leach today. Haven't seen it on the internet yet.

War Willie

Seeing how W. Martinez sucked ass this season, and that was the only reason we lost 3 games...

Evil Richt is coming out again!!!

Chavis is Bulldog Bound

JT said...

I feel confident saying we will never see John Chavis as our DC. As a matter of fact, I feel confident saying this time next week he'll be wearing Clemson orange.

Thanks, Dan, for your correction on Garner. Did you catch the Searels typo as well? AREN'T YOU PAYING ATTENTION!!!
