Week 5 Ballot:
1 Southern Cal
2 Texas
3 Virginia Tech
4 Florida
5 Georgia
6 Ohio State
7 Tennessee
8 Miami (Florida)
9 Louisiana State
10 Michigan State
11 Florida State
12 Alabama
13 Texas Tech
14 Auburn
15 Arizona State
16 Notre Dame
17 UCLA
18 Wisconsin
19 Louisville
20 Minnesota
21 Purdue
22 Cal
23 Virginia
24 Iowa State
25 Penn State
Dropped Out:
Iowa, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Michigan and Vandy
Welcome:
Minnesota, Iowa State, Penn State, Cal and Wisconsin
Justifications:
Vandy - They are 26th. They were 25th for me. There are other teams with 3 Div I-A wins over BCS opposition now and they added a 4th win over a Div I-AA cupcake.
Big 10 - The arrival of the Big 10 along the bottom of the ballot. I added 3 Big 10 teams to the ballot and dropped 2 out. It feels like I've ranked the entire conference at one time or another this season. I'll have a better feel for how to rank the newbies on my ballot after this week.
Cal - I'm not a believer.
Texas Tech - I'm not a believer based on their performance vs. my mom and her sisters in the first 3 games. I'm a believer because in spite of the schedule I think they are probably a good team. However, based on their schedule the first time that they lose I'm going to pummel them in the rankings.

How is BC not ranked, yet Iowa St. is?
Mostly b/c I forgot about them. That's the honest answer.
You'd make a good Harris poll voter.
Auburn is #14, yet they lost at home to GT and beat a collection of cupcakes.
GT has beaten 3 BCS conference bowl teams from last year - including Auburn in a game they never trailed, but one (albeit ugly) loss to VT is enough to drop them out of your poll?
Nobody ever accused 'dawgs of logical thinking :)
Auburn is probably too high. I'll grant you that.
But Tech is losing Defensive Linemen right and left. If they didn't have an offweek this week, they would lose vs. almost anyone they played with no more depth than they have right now.
GT gets worse as the season goes on b/c Gailey can't recruit depth.
Independent of whether or not I have Auburn overrated, GT isn't a Top 25 team.
When Georgia beats Auburn at Auburn and makes it look effortless, then maybe you can say that GT doesn't belong in the top 25 - but who has GA beaten this year? An overrated non-BCS conference champion, two bottom feeders in the SEC and, for all intents and purposes, a divII school "playing" at being the Div. I. Go Dawgs, but give the techies their due (and don't be surprised when VT goes undefeated in the ACC and makes a bid at a national championship this year - they've got the guns to destroy USC)
the blog poll isn't a season long achievement award. It's designed to ask the question...."who would beat whom on a neutral field THIS WEEK".
the Georgia Tech team that beat Auburn isn't the Georgia Tech team of this week. You've lost Henderson for an undetermined amount of time. Your OL is playing worse than back then. And I think Anaoi is banged up. And Ball is back to making weak decisions like last year.
It isn't a permanent ranking. It's week to week.
GT will probably end up ranked next week after these middling Big 10 teams beat each other up this week.
GT and BC are the 2 teams most likely to be ranked next week that aren't this week.
Lighten up francis.
I agree with your weak decision assesment of Ball last week, but give the kid a break - he had viral meningitis (hell, I can't even spell that). As far as the injuries go, Tech will rebound for that - most of the injuries are minor and a weekend off will help with that - don't count them out yet.
i'm not busting Ball's balls.
I'm just saying that he's not playing as well as he was in Week 1. It takes time to shake that illness. I'm AMAZING that he played at all.
If GT played this week (which they won't), I think they would lose to Penn State, Minnesota, etc. So I didn't rank them.
If GT beats NCSU, I'll rank 'em. But I'll be there pulling for a Pack win next Thurs.
