Urban Meyer's Spread Option -- Is this some sort of code word for "Can't run the Ball a Lick." When Meyer was hired, the media tried to say that his style wasn't gimicky. It was bold and innovative. Just the sort of scheme that would immediately shake the SEC up like Spurrier's system did in 1990. The difference -- the spread option hasn't shaken any Power Conference to its knees yet. Despite multiple implementations of it. Tommy Bowden won 13 games with it at Tulane. He's yet to win 10 at Clemson. Rich Rodriguez at WVU has yet to win 10 games at WVU with it. Northwestern under Randy whathisface hasn't won 10 games with it. Has ANYONE won 10+ games with the spread option in a Power Conference?
Meyer has a good football mind and approach to building teams/leaders, but he's going to struggle winning 10+ games in the SEC if he doesn't find a way to run the ball. They will be better next year, but that team isn't Top 10 material. Much as I pointed out pre-season.
Mike Shula and Brodie Croyle -- While the media was stroking what a great job Kines did with the defense, what about a little more love for what Brodie and Shula did to Meyer's defense! They shredded the Gators from the opening play with a power running game, deep balls, screens, and short slants. It was a clinic til Bama called off the dogs in the 4th. Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer indeed.
