quick thoughts on UF vs. Bama

Bama vs. Florida -- I was the only person in Beaver Stadium, PA that was jumping up and down like a mad man when the UF vs. Bama score was announced. I still haven't stopped laughing about it. I watched the game tonight on DVR, and I'm totally impressed.

Urban Meyer's Spread Option -- Is this some sort of code word for "Can't run the Ball a Lick." When Meyer was hired, the media tried to say that his style wasn't gimicky. It was bold and innovative. Just the sort of scheme that would immediately shake the SEC up like Spurrier's system did in 1990. The difference -- the spread option hasn't shaken any Power Conference to its knees yet. Despite multiple implementations of it. Tommy Bowden won 13 games with it at Tulane. He's yet to win 10 at Clemson. Rich Rodriguez at WVU has yet to win 10 games at WVU with it. Northwestern under Randy whathisface hasn't won 10 games with it. Has ANYONE won 10+ games with the spread option in a Power Conference?

Meyer has a good football mind and approach to building teams/leaders, but he's going to struggle winning 10+ games in the SEC if he doesn't find a way to run the ball. They will be better next year, but that team isn't Top 10 material. Much as I pointed out pre-season.

Mike Shula and Brodie Croyle -- While the media was stroking what a great job Kines did with the defense, what about a little more love for what Brodie and Shula did to Meyer's defense! They shredded the Gators from the opening play with a power running game, deep balls, screens, and short slants. It was a clinic til Bama called off the dogs in the 4th. Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer indeed.

Joe Kines -- where was this brillance when he was coaching UGA's defense. He was all read and react. We saw no scheme or results like this except for UF '97. Joe is a good guy, and he deserves great things to happen to him. But you have to admit, this isn't expected.

The blueprint for beating UF is there. We just need to follow it.

Bama whipped their butts that's for sure. Unfortunately for Bama every time in recent memory something good happens, something bad happens. Prothro's broken leg takes some of the joy out of the victory and raises the annual question of why was he in the game at that point. I hear their logic - just don't agree with it considering their history of late game injuries with a big lead. You'd think they'd pull guys out quicker just to avoid the risk and bad publicity (they were up 4 TD's at that point and inside the UF 20).

Looking forward to your post about this week's UGA/UT game.

I would've had Prothro in the game. You can't play scared. It was a fluke injury. It wasn't like the Western Carolina game where Brodie got hurt or the UGA game where Brodie got hurt.

Bama can beat UT with or without Prothro. They just can't turn it over.

paulwesterdowg is right the key to the Tennesse game will be turnovers. Both teams have a great defense but with Clausen hurting and the noice the crowd will be making on 22 Oct you have to give the nod to the Crimson Tide. What I am most worried about is the team overlooking Ole Miss next Saturday. Roll Tide Roll!!!!!!!!!

YEA, PROTHRO SHOULD HAVE BEEN RIGHT WHERE HE WAS. IF THE INJURY WOULD HAVE NOT HAPPENED, WOULD THE MEDIA STILL ASK THE QEUSTION "WHY WAS PROTHRO STILL IN THE GAME?". BAMA HAS HAD A HARD TIME IN RECENT YEARS AND THEY FINALLY HAD A CHANCE TO MAKE A STATMENT ON NATIONAL TV WITH THE 5TH RANKED TEAM IN THE NATION. THAT STATEMENT WAS MADE!!!!!!!!!!!

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!

RAMMER JAMMER YELLOWHAMMER!!!!!!
