Athens Regional Foundation Classic Is A Homecoming for Former Bulldogs
The Classic City holds a special place in the hearts of University of Georgia alumni and most will find any excuse to make it back to their adopted hometown. Eight former UGA student athletes have the opportunity to make even more memories when they return to Athens as professional golfers for the Nationwide Tour’s Athens Regional Foundation Classic, beginning Thursday, April 20, and continuing through Sunday, April 23.
All proceeds from the Classic will benefit the Athens Regional Foundation. The Foundation goals of community service and education are accomplished by providing the financial means to establish projects and programs to reach out and serve the long-term healthcare needs of area citizens.
Recent projects of the Foundation include the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support, which provides free resources to anyone affected by cancer; The Guest House, a home away from home for families of critically ill patients; a Mobile Mammography Unit, which provides screening mammograms to women who do not easily have access to mammograms; and the Breast Health Center, which includes one of the only digital mammography units in the country.
The former Bulldogs participating include Tim Simpson, Chip Beck, Tommy Tolles, Franklin Langham, Paul Claxton, Justin Bolli, Erik Compton, Nick Cassini, and David Denham will all be in the field at Jennings Mill. These eight Bulldogs make up some of the most heralded athletes in UGA golf history and their collegiate careers span nearly 25 years.
