Conflicting Reports on the QB Derby?

The Macon Telegraph has an article on the QBs stating that we shouldn't expect any news soon. In fact, Richt mentions that the race may extend into the first few games of the Fall. Personally, I think we'll have a starter nailed down by the Colorado game. We play the Buffs in Week 4.

The Macon article makes it sound like, Richt is using the Spring to learn what all 4 guys do rather than use the time to build a depth chart. Personally, I think he's doing it that way to give Stafford every chance to catch up.

However, the AJC almost makes it sound like Tereshinski is doing more to separate himself from the others.

Regardless, it is obvious that Richt is very, very high is Richt on Stafford. How high? It seems that he's already chatting him up to the NFL guys.

Gil Brandt, legendary NFL GM/Scout and current head of scouting for NFL.com, has two articles online *already* mentioning Stafford. Back in January he talked about visiting the national coaching convention where he ran into Richt.
"I had an opportunity to talk to Mark Richt (Georgia head coach) and the first thing he wanted to know from me was about his new quarterback, Matthew Stafford, who is enrolling at Georgia and has a chance to be their starting QB next year."
I think Brandt still lives in Dallas. That's probably why Richt was asking about him. Fast Forward to March 29th and Brandt has another article mentioning Stafford.
"As an example of how far in advance players can get on the radar, I noticed one player -- Sergio Kindle -- at Texas' Pro Day on March 23. Kindle graduated from high school a semester early so he could participate in spring practice with the Longhorns. In fact, he is one of four "grey shirts" (fall 2005 high school graduates) practicing with Texas this spring. Four years from now, if Kindle's progress continues, he will be on the list.

Another player to catch my eye is Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, who also played high school football last fall and is part of a program that allowed him to graduate early and participate in spring practice."
Hat Tip to AaronFullen and Horions01 on The Porch for the Brandt links.Good luck ot all 4 guys as we near the close of Spring. G-Day should be really interesting.

Gil Brandt not only used to live in Dallas but he used to live in Highland Park where Stafford went to high school. I'm not sure if he still lives there or not. I'd bet that he does since Highland Park has managed to stay a nice neighborhood (unlike its surroundings) and he's talking like everyone I know from the area who has anything to say about Stafford (as a UGA alum visiting South Dallas in December, everyone thought it important to mention that he was going to UGA like I hadn't already heard it).

Everyone in Dallas thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. That is a very competitive football area so they may be right but I still wonder if he can make the transition to college in under a season. I think Richt might be better off redshirting him and making it a 3-way QB race.

I think that Cox has a good shot to get the starting job. I think that things will solidify against WKU. We'll figure out who our starter is in that game. I think Joe Cox will win out, which means Massaquoi is going to get a lot of catches. Oh yeah, PWD, check out my blog on the Big East-SEC Challenge for next fall. That would make for an interesting series, but I think that the Big 12 would be more appropriate.

I'm sure this has already been thought of before but what do you guys think about using Joe T this year and red-shirting Stafford this year, then making the job Stafford's to lose next year. Do you think Richt would avoid this after what happened with DJ redshirting?
