Both of these dudes would fall under the heading "grown ass man." Jarius Wynn (6'5" 275 lbs) is projected at Defensive End. I'm pretty sure his cousins are Shed Wynn and Garrison Hearst. Corvey Irvin (6'3" and 270 lbs) is projected at defensive tackle. From the AJC:

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Wynn could have an early impact at defensive end. Quentin Moses is a senior, and fellow starter Charles Johnson, a pro prospect, hasn't said whether he'll be back for his senior season. If Johnson left, Georgia would only have two ends with significant experience at that spot: Roderick Battle and Marcus Howard.
The 6-3, 275-pound Irvin is also a good bet to get immediate playing time at tackle, where Georgia has had depth issues this season.

We're still looking at one or two more JUCO signees. Most notably, we're in the running for for Scott Havercamp (6'5" 300 lb offensive lineman). Scout.com spells it Haverkamp and says the kid will decide shortly after his Dec. 8th visit to UGA. Rivals.com spells it Havercamp and says, it's down to UGA and FSU. Regardless, the kid will announce soon, and he wants to enroll for January.

I pray all those linemen, especially on the offensive side of the ball, can stay healthy. With all the talent in the skill positions, it won't mean a thing if you can't block consistently for 'em. The addition of the JUCO guys on defense is huge. Maybe we can shut down the run next year.
I'm all for building depth on our lines, but is all this sudden interest in JUCO players an admission by Richt that our previous line recruiting/development has been lackluster? I know we've had some weird injuries and discipline issues, but if there's a recurring problem here, we need to fix it at its root (coaching?) along with addressing the immediate problem.
Agreed, hoodawg. The staff should be scouring the globe (or at least the USA) for offensive linemen.

We have multiple problems along the offensive line.
First off, we recruited 3 offensive linemen during the 2005 and 2004 recruiting classes. Ian Smith (about to be booted), Chester Adams (rising Senior) and Seth Watts (rising JR).
When you only sign 2 OL in a 2 year period, that leaves you with no margin of error. Unfortunately, only 1 of those kids panned out.
Secondly, last year's OL class looked strong until 3 kids didn't qualify, 1 was dismissed and 1 more is playing defensive end.
So, we have a problem with sheer numbers.
If you asking if we should improve our talent evaluation, character evaluation, academic transcript evaluation and health evaluation along the OL, I'd say YES.
There is a concerted effort to bring talented HIGH SCHOOL offensive linemen in greater numbers. However, it will take 2-3 years for those kids to contribute at an elite level.
In the interim, we need Jucos to fill some gaps.
Next year's OL will likely look like this:
OT - Vince Vance (RSo) - Juco
OT - Chester Adams (SR)
OG - Fernado Velasco (SR)
OG - ? (Chris Davis, Seth Watts, Kevin Perez, Blaes or Justin Anderson)
C - ? (Kevin Perez or Blaes)
That group needs 1 more Juco to round it out b/c another HS Olineman won't cure our ills for 2007.
Separately, I think we have problems with motivation and scholarship management. But no one at Butts-Mehre asked me.

I think Richt and the staff did a great job of fixing their prior OL mistakes this year. They really hit the ground running and we've nearly solved a problem that could have gotten our 5-star QB killed next year. Can you imagine if we didn't have Vance and Blaes, and Anderson didn't qualify? How bad would that have been? Experience will still be a problem, but talent and depth won't be all that bad.
Now they need to concentrate on not letting this happen ever again.
I also think we can get by without one more JUCO guy, though it'd be great to get another. We could have Geathers switch to OL, assuming he gets in and if he'll agree to do that.
PWD : do you have any info on Geathers? Hearing on other boards that he may not make it UGA afterall - still having a hard time with his grades & SAT scores.
Any truth to this? I hope not; was really looking forward to seeing him play!
