Martinez a Candidate for Rice HC?

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Willie Martinez is one of four candidates for its vacant head coaching position. Former Rice coach Todd Graham resigned to take the head job at Tulsa.

The list apparently began with 200 recommendations, which was later whittled to 50 names. Other than Martinez, the "serious" candidates are Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops, LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, and former Rice defensive coordinator Paul Randolph.

Rice athletic director Chris Del Conte does not appear to be troubled by the impending signing day deadline, offering the following great quote regarding the seach: "Got a lot of suspects, but we don't know if we have any prospects."

Who has two thumbs and needs to blitz more?

Update: Martinez withdraws from consideration.
