Georgia vs. Florida Game Notes

Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 (Athens, Ga.)
    #1 Florida 21-2/8-0
    at Georgia 13-8/5-4
Tip-off Time: 7:37 p.m. (EST)
TV: Tape-delayed telecast on Sun Sports.

Quick tidbits from Georgiadogs.com:
-- Wednesday will mark the 10th time in history that Georgia has played the No. 1 team in the AP weekly poll. Previous times include:
    12/27/97 vs. UNC (H): L, 80-82 (OT)
    2/24/94 vs. Arkansas (H): L, 65-74
    1/30/78 vs. Kentucky (A): L, 73-90
    12/19/75 vs. Indiana (A): L, 56-93
    1/29/59 vs. Kentucky (A): L, 55-108
    2/4/54 vs. Kentucky (N): L, 68-100
    2/2/54 vs. Kentucky (A): L, 55-106
    2/23/51 vs. Kentucky (A): L, 41-88
    2/21/49 vs. Kentucky (A): L, 40-95
-- Wednesday's game is the 192nd all-time meeting between Georgia and Florida in basketball. Florida leads the series -- which ranks as the most frequent among all series in Georgia basketball -- by a 97-94 count. This record excludes a pair of Georgia victories (2002 in Gainesville and 2003 in Athens) that were later vacated because of NCAA sanctions. (Note: Given that Florida tries to count SEC titles won while they were on football probation in '90 and '84, shouldn't we count the games won while we had Tony Cole?)

-- Florida has gained the series advantage by winning the past six meetings. Georgia¹s last win in this series came Feb. 17, 2004 in a 76-62 win in Athens. Its last win in Gainesville came Jan. 19, 2002 in an 84-79 decision.

-- Over the past 15 years of this series, the records at each venue are identical. Florida has won nine of 15 meetings in Gainesville and also in Athens. During that time frame, Georgia has won on the road against Florida in 1992-95-96-97-2001-02, spanning four different head coaches.

Georgia needs this one bad.
