Sour grapes if you will...
But I hope Bobby Bowden continues futher into senility, the staff goes into utter disarray and disbands within two years, and Antwan Greenlee has a worse career than Jabari Davis or Sean Young.

The Greenlee thing is terribly odd. I mean, he spoke at length about how he was firmly committed to Georgia and then switches without telling anyone?

Also ... big questions about Georgia coaches turning down D.J. Stafford? I don't buy that one necessarily.

Jmac, Stafford tried to get in touch with our coaches yesterday to say that he wanted to sign with us (this from Stafford's mouth to UGAsports.com).

The Greenlee thing isn't necessarily as odd as you think. He initially comitted to FSU. He had a close bond with Calloway, who then left to take another job. He wound up liking FSU OL coach Trickett more than Searels.

Even though he was saying "I'm 100%" as recently as a couple of weeks ago adn "FSU is giving me something to think about, but I'm firm to UGA" a week ago, the signs were there. It's unfortunate, but in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal. It happens.

The reason recruiting coveraqe gets flak can currently be seen if one views the UGAsports recruiting board. It isn't just the occasionally negative (and absurd) comment. People are claiming we're about to slide into 8-4's ville for years, in part due to losing one player and in part due to "completely and totally failining to do a good job in state" (lose paraphrase to sum it all up).

It's not true, however. We did an excellent job signing kids from out of state this year. Blue chippers all the way around. Richt is turning us into more of a national player, and you can't do that and expect things to stay the same in state.

Lastly, if we recruited like this 3-4 years in a row in state, people *might* be onto something that we're sliding (but there are a number of other factors that we'd need to consider). One year, however, does not a trend make. And, even with the loss of Greenlee (a bluechip who plays a corner stone position - OT - on OL, our biggest recruiting need this year position wise), we're still bringing in a big OL class.

Jmac - DJ Stafford is prep school at best. If he goes Juco, he'd be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG shot to ever enroll.

Right. I checked him out after seeing that original link, and I can see why coaches were hesitant to get involved with him.

And far be it from me to come across as sounding like I'm decrying this class. I think this is a great class - Greenlee or not - that fills the most pressing needs we had.

Just because it didn't include 17 wide receivers like Florida's doesn't mean it's not 'good.'

Nod, I was speaking generally. The UGAsports.com message boards right now demand social commentary; I offered up what I could.

We lose Greenlee, we gain Chris Little.
