John Knox Qualifies. Georgia enrolls entire academic class
Knox qualified by this much
John Knox (Safety, Statesboro High School) has apparently qualified. Kudos to the entire 2007 Georgia Bulldog recruiting class as it appears that all 23 kids have now qualified. As the AJC points out, no one is really sure when that last happened. The fact that it's newsworthy that all our recruits qualified is an odd thing.
Some (read: GT fans) will spin it as "a miracle" and "the football factory finally got them all in." Some UGA fans will try and spin it as we're not taking as many academic chances. Or they'll point to Auburn who had 9 or 10 not qualify and take on their own holier than thou attitude.
Based on Richt's comments, it doesn't sound like our recruiting strategy has changed. It's just that all these kids actually made it for once.
Given the educational infrastructure in this state, especially in rural areas, we are always going to have recruits that are cutting it close academically. The state of Georgia didn't become one of the bottom 5-10 states in America academically overnight, and it's not going to turn itself around overnight. If you've got a historical beef with UGA signing academic at risk players, talk to you governor.
I'm comfortable over signing (a little) with the assumption that all might not make it. I'm also comfortable sending kids to Hargrave for a semester or a year if that's what it takes. At the end of the day, a Hargrave/Fork Union kid has to meet the same eligibility standards as any other student-athlete before he enrolls at an NCAA college. So why wouldn't we take advantage of that solution to get kids enrolled?
Respected academic schools like UNC, UVA, Southern Cal, Illinois and even Duke have been known to use the prep school method for getting borderline kids in. So I've got no issue with it.
Sorry for the tangent. I'm glad they all qualified, but I don't think that it's the beginning of a new trend. And I'm fine with us leveraging legit prep schools like Hargrave in the future if that's what it takes to get a kid into school.

I agree with you about the prep school route. Im happy to see our kids all made it through. Go Dawgs!
Agree with everything you said, except that I wonder if we didn't tweak the emphasis on likelihood of getting straight in slightly upward.
Certainly, a lot of what drives the DNQ number is tiny, unknowable almost random fluctuations in how kids who are right at the line are going to perform. Like turnover margin, the numbers are going to bounce around some no matter what you do. Still, I think we may have tightened the screen just a tad.
Excellent post and thoughts
Yet another positive thing that has me feeling pretty good about this year
GO DAWGS!
Good post, but please remove Illinois from your list of top schools - it is not a strong academically.
Just stick to posting, why do you have to bring a Republican Governor into this? He's been in office hmmm lets see 5 years, the Legislature and Governor was in Democratic hands for 130 plus years previously. As you said didn't happen overnight and will not be corrected overnight. Stick to sports, not your "Olberman Style" of political humor.
Anon,
Where did I place blame for our educational system on the current governor?

Ghost of Reggie,
Ghost of Reggie,
Illinois is ranked #41 top overall university by USNews. UGA is ranked #60. They are one of the Top 8-10 public universities in America.
They are just below the big California public schools, Michigan, UVA, UNC, GT, and Wisconsin.
PS -- This site is run by two republicans. Don't get your britches in a bunch.
yeah i agree with the ghost. Illinois is not that strong of an academic school. yeah they are good but not elite. i would have easily ranked Georgia over them. i mean come on, alabama and auburn are tied for 39th on that list. if you know that and still take the list seriously, then I can't help you.
And not to stir a shit storm, but I dispute the idea Georgia has a Republican governor. I don't care what he calls himself. If a cat has kittens in the oven, that don't make'em biscuits, and an "R" beside Perdue's name don't make him Republican.
you need to re-read the list you're looking at. There's not a list in the world that has Alabama and Auburn as Top 40 overall colleges.
They might be among the Top 40 PUBLIC colleges. But not overall.
UGA is Top 20-25 public and Top 60 overall.
Bama and Auburn are tied for 88th on the list. Way behind us.
Here's the The list
