A few starting spots look settled, sort of. Brian Mimbs appears to have secured the starting punter job. However, it sounds like Mimbs could be one shank from losing that spot to freshman Drew Butler. It also appears that Kade Weston has reclaimed his starting spot at defensive tackle, but you should expect heavy rotation inside. Lastly, it looks like Brandon Coutu will handle kickoff duties.
Richt Earns a Bigger Halo. The AP reports that after Coach Richt heard about Oklahoma State wide receiver Artrell Woods's potential career-ending off season weight lifting injury he decided to give Woods a gift to lift his spirits. Richt sent Woods a football signed by the entire Georgia team along with some get well wishes.
Isner Hears Some Barks. I know most of you don't care about tennis, but you should watch Georgia alum John Isner at the U.S. Open this week. Isner was our No. 1 player on last year's national champion tennis team. The U.S. Open is his first grand slam tournament and he is making a name for himself, winning two mild upsets in the opening rounds. A UGA flag was spotted in the stands after his opening round victory. Tonight, after Isner won in straight sets, an interviewer asked why everyone was barking at him. John is doing Georgia proud. His reward for winning his first two matches: a match with Roger Federer, the world's best player.

Any word on if or when the Isner v. Federer match is on TV?
I think I heard the commentators say that he would play Federer on Saturday, don't know what time though. I would imagine it will be on tv, considering it is the #1 player in the world versus a young American who is quickly becoming a fan favorite.
I could care less about tennis, but Isner is damn near irresistible television. His charisma is off the charts, the serve is 140+ mph and it's a UGA commercial whenever he plays.
I've watched more tennis this past month than the rest of my 30+ years total b/c of him.
Huge article article on Isner in the NY Times.
Isner's comments about the benefits for him going to college (for 4 years) vs. going pro were super classy. The fact that McEnroe and his partner could not name a pro who had success after playing 4 years of NCAA Tennis says volumes about the difficulty of making the jump from College to the ATP.
I believe the Fed-Isner match should be on Friday night. It could actually be competitive, Federer has had trouble against Tall Power Servers in the past. And by trouble I mean it took him a game or two to get back in it.
If Isner takes him to a tie-break in any of the sets it would be a huge success for him.
Unfortunately, the match will most likely be on during the UGA game...
I emailed Evans and asked that we get an announcement at Sanford if Izzy pulls the upset.
It would perhaps be the most impressive athletic feat ever accomplished by a rookie UGA alum.
The match will be taking place during the football game Saturday night...I can't imagine anything cooler than an in-game announcement of Isner's upset over Federer.
I saw Isner play against Roddick in Washington D.C and he had a huge crowd of Georgia buddies rooting him on.
That being said Federer will probably kill him.
I just swapped emails with Butts-Mehre. They're all over it. No worries.
It stinks for Dawg fans that Isner is playing Saturday night, but it's huge for John. Playing a night match at the US Open is the ultimate for an American tennis player.
It's times like these that I'm glad I have two DVR's :-)
