Finally: a good idea for the students

No red out, no black out, no white out. They're calling for a Noise Out.

Well...ok. I'm with you this time. I'm turning myself up to 11.

Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number..and make that a little louder?

..these go to eleven.

Interestingly, Wikipedia lists Amherst vs. Williams, a Division III game, as this weekend's selection for Gameday. It cites this webpage in support: http://www.espnmediazone.com/thiswk_midwk/thisweek.html#gameday.

Thoughts on validity? Have they gone to D-III...or even below D-IA, before?

I dunno anything about them going D-III before...but if you go to http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnMicrosite?showID=FBCG
it says the same thing as Wiki... that's so strange.

It's a big Div III game.

But still. I'm beside myself.

Seriously, if gameday wont come to athens for this game then they never will. WGAS about a Div.3 game??

It's not even a 'Big' D-III game. I went to a D-III school for undergrad and, regrettably, I keep up with this stuff a little bit.

The only school that matters in D-III is Mt. Union. They have only lost 4 games since 1999 (including the tourney).

What you have is some corporate d-bag at ESPN/Disney/ABC that went to Amherst or Williams (and whose kids go to Amherst or Williams) or one of the 7 sister schools that thinks that going to a D-III game at a snobby, Northeast College will 'class' up ESPN. If you want a 'feel-good' GameDay (because it isn't about selling ad time, it is really about the kids, right?- All Sarcasm brought to you by Stubhub, by the way.) go to Army-Navy, go to Yale-Harvard...at least they would have reasonable national storylines that people outside the northeast would even care about. You could even go to Lehigh v. Lafayette (which I think is the oldest rivalry in DI) Instead, we get to watch a couple hundred slappys with trust funds, cardigans, and monogrammed shirts remind us about the 'real meaning of college football.' Well, Huzzah Huzzah.*

*I take back all of this if ESPN rolls out some sentimental reason for being at the game like a cancer survivor who is the head coach or something along those lines.

that facebook group now says that the players and richt have asked for a blackout as well. could that be true?

I would love it if this meant UGA and Nike have a trick up their sleeves, like all black uniforms or something. That would be enough to get me more fired up.

Parks said...

yea i don't know why they would go D-III but Gameday lost my vote to watch saturday. UGA's only chance to have gameday is a primetime matchup on ESPN. This is like last year when ESPN picked Grambling vs. Southern in place of Georgia- Georgia Tech. It doeesn't make sense but...

Yes, on the call in show Richt has just said that the Senior players went up to Richt and asked for a blackout and Richt has just asked the bulldawg nation to wear black. It is being rumored that the team will warmup in the red jerseys and change to the black jerseys when they come out of the tunnel!

Irwin Fletcher sounds a little bitter about his D-III undergrad experience. while it is true that there are likely corporate big-whigs from Amherst and Williams working for ESPN, as well as other numerous successful business, this is not the reason CGD is going to Williamstown this weekend. Amherst vs. Williams is a rivalry which goes back to 1884. The game is dubbed "The Biggest Little Football Game in America" and it is considered the last vestige of true amateur sports in this country. The players play simply to compete; none will play football beyond college. Honestly, google "Amherst Williams rivalry," and read from a number if sources, such as ESPN, on why this is an important sporting event.

That being said, I'll be there. GO JEFFS!

Didn't the Dogs sport black pants or red pants back with Donnan against Florida?

Irwin R. Flecther said...

"The Biggest Little Football Game in America", huh?

ESPN and Gameday built by the Home Depot going to this game would be like the Rat Pack deciding to head to Reno over Vegas.

Let the last amateur television network, aka PBS, cover the D-III and ESPN stick to the Biggest Football Game in America each week.

(By the way, I would have a lot less of a problem if there was more relevance to the game than it just being old. The teams involved aren't even national championship contenders at the D-III level...they have just played each other a lot. Great. So your schools were able to field football teams for 122 years? Congrats on that.)

As for the Blackout...that is sweet. If they go all black with those Red helmets, it is going to look amazing. And I think Donnan broke out the black pants against Wisky in the Outback Bowl and against Florida resulting in a 1-1 record...although, I could be off on that.

Mitch said...

We wore the black pants against florida in 97 and 98 and im sure you know the outcome of both of those games. However we havent worn black tops with the silver britches since 1953.

Yeah, Williams-Amherst is considered one of the great all-time small college rivalries ... kind of an Army-Navy type thing.

Paul Westerdawg said...

Williams College has a population of 2,000. Williamstown, Mass has a population of 8,000.

There won't be 500 people there for gameday.

Rece Davis doesn't like Athens. Isn't this true? Didn't I read that somewhere, sometime?
